    A packet radio network for providing a facility for communicating internet packets to and/or from a mobile user equipment, the packet radio network comprising a gateway support node operable to provide a IPv4 packet data protocol context for controlling the communication of IPv4 internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a IPv4 packet communications bearer, and to provide a IPv6 packet data protocol context for controlling the communication of IPv6 internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a IPv6 packet communications bearer, a serving support node operable to control communications of the IPv4 internet packets or the IPv6 internet packets to and from the gateway support node to and/or from mobile user equipment via a IPv4 packet communications bearer or via a IPv6 packet communications bearer, and a radio network controller operable to provide a radio access bearer for communicating the IPv4 internet packets or IPv6 internet packets via a radio access interface to and/or from the mobile user equipment, characterised in that in response to a packet data protocol activation request message sent by the mobile user equipment requesting a packet data protocol context for communicating packets according to a non-specific internet protocol version, the serving support node is operable in combination with the gateway support node to establish a common packet data protocol context in association with a common packet communications bearer, said common packet data protocol context being a packet data protocol context configured for communicating, via the common packet communications bearer, IPv4 internet packets in a first communications session and IPv6 internet packets in a second communications session, said IPv4 internet packets being communicated separately from said IPv6 internet packets, the common packet communications bearer being a packet communications bearer which is shared by said first communications session and second communications session and is formed by the gateway support node and the serving support node using a common tunneling protocol bearer, and the common tunnelling protocol is being operable to communicate the internet packets for said first communications session and second communications session via the common packet communications bearer.

    A packet radio network as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the gateway support node is operable to establish the common communications bearer by forming the common tunnelling protocol bearer between the gateway support node and the radio network controller via the serving support node, the common tunnelling protocol bearer being formed using a common tunnelling end point identifier for each of the mobile user equipment which are sharing the common packets communications bearer.

    A packet radio network as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the tunnelling protocol bearer is supported by an internet protocol transport layer, and the tunnelling protocol bearer to arranged to provide a quality of service to each of the communications sessions which are sharing the common tunnelling bearer based on a differential quality of service class provided in a header of the internet packets which are communicated in accordance with each of the communications sessions.

    A packet radio network as claimed in any of Claims 1, 2 or 3, wherein the radio network part includes a radio access bearer filter operable to identify one of the radio access bearers which has been established for communicating the internet packets to and/or from the mobile user equipment in accordance with the communications sessions which has been established by the mobile user equipment, the radio access bearer filter being operable to identify the radio access bearer corresponding to the established communications session from a destination address of the internet packets being communicated to the mobile user equipment.

    A packet radio network as claimed in Claim 4, wherein the destination address of the internet packets with respect to which the corresponding radio access bearer is identified for the communications session is provided to the radio access bearer filter by the mobile user equipment.

    A packet radio network as claimed in Claim 4 or 5, wherein each of the radio access bearers is arranged to provide a quality of service for which the communications session has been established by the mobile user equipment.

    A method of communicating internet packets to and/or from a mobile user equipment via a packet radio network, the method comprising:providing a packet data protocol context in a gateway support node of the packet radio network, for controlling the communication of the internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a packet communications bearer, using a serving support node of the packet radio network to control the communication of the internet packets to and/or from mobile user equipment to form the packet communications bearer, and providing a radio access bearer using a radio network controller of the packet radio network, for communicating the internet packets via a radio access interface to and/or from the mobile user equipment, characterised in that in response to a packet data protocol activation request message requesting a packet data protocol context for communicating packets according to a non-specific internet protocol version, establishing a common packet data protocol context in association with a common packet communications bearer supported by the common packet data protocol context, the common packet data protocol context being a packet protocol context configured for communicating, via the common packet communications bearer, IPv4 internet packets in a first communications session and IPv6 internet packets in a second communications session, said IPv4 internet packets being communicated separately from said IPv6 internet packets, the common packet communications bearer being shared by said first and second communications sessions and being formed by the gateway support node and the serving support node using a common tunnelling protocol bearer, the common tunnelling protocol bearer being operable to communicate the internet packets for said first and second communications session via the common packet communications bearer.

    A method as claimed in Claim 7, wherein the using a common tunnelling protocol bearer comprises forming the common tunnelling protocol bearer between the gateway support node and the radio network controller via a serving support node of the packet radio network, the common tunnelling protocol bearer being formed using a common tunnelling end point identifier for each of the mobile user equipment which are sharing the common packets communications bearer.

    A method as claimed in Claim 7 or 8, wherein the tunnelling protocol bearer is supported by an internet protocol transport layer, and the forming the common tunnelling protocol bearer comprises providing a quality of service to each of the communications sessions which are sharing the common tunnelling bearer based on a differential quality of service class provided in a header of the internet packets which are communicated in accordance with each of the communications sessions.

    A method as claimed in Claim 7, 8 or 9, wherein providing the radio access bearer comprises providing, as part of a radio network controller, a radio access bearer filter operable to identify one of the radio access bearers which has been established for communicating the internet packets to and/or from the mobile user equipment in accordance with the communications sessions which has been established by the mobile user equipment, the radio access bearer filter being operable to identify the radio access bearer corresponding to the established communications session from a destination address of the internet packets being communicated to the mobile user equipment.

    A method as claimed in Claim 10, comprising providing to the radio access bearer filter from the mobile user equipment the destination address of the internet packets with respect to which the corresponding radio access bearer is identified for the communications session is provided.

    A method claimed in Claim 10 or 11, wherein each of the radio access bearers is arranged to provide a quality of service for which the communications session has been established by the mobile user equipment.

    A computer program providing computer executable code, which when loaded on to a computer, performs a method of communicating internet packets to and/or from a mobile user equipment via a packet radio network, according to any of Claims 7 to 12.

    An apparatus for communicating internet packets to and/or from a mobile user equipment via a packet radio network, the apparatus comprising means for providing a packet data protocol context in a gateway support node of the packet radio network, for controlling the communication of the internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a packet communications bearer, means for using a serving support node of the packet radio network to control the communication of the internet packets to and/or from mobile user equipment to form the packet communications bearer, and means for providing a radio access bearer using a radio network controller of the packet radio network, for communicating the internet packets via a radio access interface to and/or from the mobile user equipment, characterised by means for requesting a packet data protocol context for communicating packets according to a non-specific internet protocol version, in response to a packet data protocol activation request message, and means for establishing a common packet data protocol context in association with a common packet communications bearer supported by the common packet data protocol context, the common packet data protocol context being a packet data protocol context configured to communicate, via the common packet communications bearer, IPv4 internet packets in a first communications session and IPv6 in a second communications session, said IPv4 internet packets being communicated separately from said IPv6 internet packets, the common packet communications bearer being shared by said first and second communications sessions, said first and second communications sessions using a common tunnelling protocol bearer, and means for communicating said IPv4 and IPv6 internet packets in said first and second communications sessions via the common packet communications bearer, the common tunnelling protocol bearer being operable to communicate the internet packets for said first and second communications sessions via the common packet communications bearer.

    A mobile user equipment for providing a facility for communicating internet packets to and/or from a packet radio network, the mobile user equipment comprising:means for providing an IPv4 packet data protocol context for controlling the communication of IPv4 internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a IPv4 packet communications bearer, means for providing an IPv6 packet data protocol context for controlling the communication of IPv6 internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a IPv6 packet communications bearer, characterised in that the mobile user equipment comprises: means for communicating to a serving support node a packet data protocol activation request message requesting a packet data protocol context for communicating packets according to a non-specific internet protocol version, said packet data protocol activation request message causing the serving support node, in combination with a gateway support node, to establish a common packet data protocol context in association with a common packet communications bearer, said common packet data protocol context being a packet data protocol context configured for communicating, via the common packet communications bearer, IPv4 internet packets in a first communications session and IPv6 internet packets in a second communications session, said IPv6 packets being communicated separately from said IPv4 internet packets, the common packet communications bearer being a packet communications bearer which is shared by said first and second communications session and is formed by the gateway support node and the serving support node using a common tunneling protocol bearer.
