Method and system for adaptively controlling a hybrid vehicle

Abstract

A method and system (11, 111) for adaptively controlling a hybrid vehicle comprises a recorder (20) for recording a historical load or duty cycle of vehicle during or after operation of the vehicle. A classifier (24) classifies the historical load in accordance with a load category. A controller (22) assigns at least one of a current control curve and a slew rate control curve associated with the load category for a defined time period after the recording of the historical load or if the vehicle is presently operating generally consistent with the load category. At least one of the current control curve and the slew rate control curve, or data representative thereof, are used to control an operation of an electric drive motor (14) of the vehicle for the defined time period.

17 claims: 2 independent, 15 dependent

  1. 1
A method for controlling a hybrid vehicle, the method comprising:recording a historical load of vehicle for a reference session during or after operation of the vehicle;classifying the historical load for the reference session in accordance with a load category;determining whether the vehicle is in a next session immediately following the reference session;and assigning at least one of a respective current control curve and a respective slew rate control curve based on a classified load category for the next session.
  2. 4
The method according to one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the determining further comprises determining whether a present load category of the present load is generally consistent with the load category of the historical load.
  3. 5
The method according to one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the classifying comprises classifying the historical load in accordance with load categories, including a first load category and a second load category, and wherein the assigning comprises assigning at least one of a first current control curve and a first slew rate control curve if the present load is consistent with the first load category and assigning at least one of a second current control curve and a second slew rate control curve if the current load is consistent with the second load category.
  4. 6
The method according to one of claims 1 to 5 wherein a user enters at least one of a session identifier, a session duration, and a task identifier to define at least one of the reference session and the next session.
  5. 7
The method according to one of claims 1 to 6 further comprising defining the reference session as a period between turning on an ignition switch and turning off the ignition switch of the vehicle.
  6. 8
The method according to one of claims 1 to 7 wherein the assigning comprises assigning a current control curve with a maximum current based on the load category and a range of state of charge of the energy storage device associated with a generally constant current.
  7. 9
The method according to one of claims 1 to 8 wherein the assigning comprises assigning a slew rate control curve with a maximum slew rate based on the load category and a range of state of charge of energy storage device associated with a generally constant slew rate.
  8. 10
A system (11, 111) for controlling a hybrid vehicle, the system comprising:a recorder (20) for recording a historical load of vehicle for a reference session during or after operation of the vehicle;a classifier (24) for classifying the historical load for the reference session in accordance with a load category;and a controller (22) for determining whether the vehicle is in a next session immediately following the reference session;the controller (22) being operable to assign at least one of a respective current control curve and a respective slew rate control curve based on a classified load category for the next session.
  9. 13
The system (11, 111) according to one of claims 10 to 12 wherein the classifier (24) determines a present load category of the present load.
  10. 14
The system (11, 111) according to one of claims 10 to 13 wherein the classifier (24) classifies the historical load in accordance with load categories, including a first load category and a second load category, and wherein the assigning comprises assigning at least one of a first current control curve and a first slew rate control curve if the present load is consistent with the first load category and assigning at least one of a second current control curve and a second slew rate control curve if the current load is consistent with the second load category.
  11. 15
The method according to one of claims 10 to 14 further comprising a user interface (25) for entering at least one of a session identifier, a session duration, and a task identifier to define at least one of the reference session and the next session.
  12. 16
The system according to one of claims 10 to 15 wherein the controller (22) assigns a current control curve with a maximum current based on the load category and a range of state of charge of the energy storage device associated with a generally constant current.
  13. 17
The system according to one of claims 10 to 16 wherein the controller (22) assigns a slew rate control curve with a maximum slew rate based on the load category and a range of state of charge of energy storage device associated with a generally constant slew rate.
