  1. 1
A radio frequency identification, RFID, communications tag, comprising:- a memory (1110) configured to store information;- a module configured to receive an interrogation signal from a reading source, and to transmit at least a portion of the stored information in a response signal;characterized by the tag further comprising: - a power module (1104) configured to obtain operational power for powering the RFID communications tag from a radio signal other than the interrogation signal;- an antenna (1101) configured to receive an ultra wideband, UWB, impulse radio, IR, interrogation signal;- wherein said memory (1110) is configured to store at least a tag identifier;- a clock recovery module (1106) configured to obtain a plurality of clock pulses from the UWB IR interrogation signal;and - an antenna modulator (1102) configured to transmit at least the tag identifier through backscatter modulation of the UWB IR interrogation signal, wherein the timing of the backscatter modulation is based on the plurality of clock pulses.
  2. 3
A method in a radio frequency identification, RFID, communications tag, comprising:(a) storing information in the RFID communications tag;(b) receiving an interrogation signal from a reading source;characterized by : (c) obtaining operational power for powering the RFID communications tag from a radio signal other than the interrogation signal;and (d) transmitting at least a portion of the stored information in a response signal;(e) wherein said storing information comprises storing at least a tag identifier;(f) wherein said receiving an interrogation signal comprises receiving an ultra wideband, UWB, impulse radio, IR, interrogation signal;(g) further comprising obtaining a plurality of clock pulses from the UWB IR interrogation signal;and (h) wherein transmitting at least a portion of the stored information comprises transmitting at least the tag identifier in a UWB IR response signal;(i) wherein the timing of the UWB IR response signal is based on the plurality of clock pulses.
  3. 6
A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having computer program logic recorded thereon for enabling a processor in a computer system to perform the steps of the methods of one of claims 3 to 5 when said program is executed by said computer system.
