EP1781908B1

Arrangement for supplying a medium into an exhaust gas conduit in an internal combustion engine

Abstract

An arrangement for supplying a medium to an exhaust line of a combustion engine. The arrangement comprises a first exhaust passage defined by at least a first wall surface of an element, and a dosing device supplying the medium to the first exhaust passage. The arrangement is adapted to maintaining a degree of heating of the first wall surface so that the latter will be at a higher temperature than the medium's vaporization point when the liquid medium is supplied in the first exhaust passage. Therefore, even the medium which reaches the first wall surface will vaporize in the first exhaust passage.

  1. 1
An arrangement for supplying a urea solution to an exhaust line (3) of a combustion engine (1) that contains a catalyst (8), whereby the arrangement comprises a first exhaust passage (12) defined by at least a first wall surface (10a'-10d') of an element (10a-10d), a dosing device (4, 5, 6, 7, 9) that comprises a spray nozzle (9) by which the urea solution is sprayed into the first exhaust passage (12), a heat source (13) which supplies heat to the first wall surface (10a'-10d'), said heat source comprises a second exhaust passage (13) bounded by a second wall surface (10a"-10d") situated close to the first wall surface (10a'-10d'), said heat source being adapted to maintaining a degree of heating of the first wall surface (10a'-10d') so that the latter is at a higher temperature than the urea solution's vaporisation point when the urea solution is supplied in the first exhaust passage (12), characterised in that said element is a wall element (10d) applied in a spiral exhaust line (3b) and that it divides a portion of the exhaust line (3b) into a first exhaust passage (12) and a second exhaust passage (13).
  2. 5
An arrangement according to claims 4, characterised in that said nozzle (9) is applied in a curved first exhaust passage (12) situated in a portion of a spiral exhaust line (3b) which extends round a central axis (c), whereby the positioning of the apertures (26a-h) of the nozzle (9) is such that the urea solution is supplied in directions (27a-h) which predominantly lead the urea solution radially inwards towards said central axis (c) in the curved first exhaust passage (12).
