  1. 1
A method of providing a multicast service in a mobile telecommunications network (8), the method characterized by comprising the step of:transmitting a signaling message including a first probability factor (301) and a second probability factor (302), the first probability factor (301) and the second probability factor (302) being for a user terminal (1) in a radio resource control_idle, RRC_idle, state and for a user terminal (1) in a universal terrestrial radio access network, UTRAN, registration area_paging channel, URA_PCH, state, respectively;and receiving response messages from user terminals (1) based on the first probability factor (301) and the second probability factor (302), each of the user terminals (1) being in the RRC_idle state or the URA_PCH state;and counting at least one user terminal (1) in the RRC_idle state and at least one user terminal (1) in the URA_PCH state interested in a particular multicast service based on the response messages .
  2. 2
A method of providing a multicast service in a mobile telecommunications network (8), the method comprising the steps of:acquiring a probability factor (311) and an additional parameter (312);and counting user terminals (1) in RRC_idle state and URA_PCH state interested in a particular multicast service using the probability factor (311) and the additional parameter (312), characterized in that said additional parameter (312) specifies for which of said two states the counting procedure is to be carried out;and said additional parameter (312) determines whether the probability factor (311) is applicable as follows: i) user terminals (1) in the state indicated by the parameter apply the probability factor (311);and ii) user terminals (1) in states corresponding to a higher activity level respond to counting irrespective of the probability factor (312).
