11 claims: 3 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2005032339 A2 Claims What is claimed is:1. A system for monitoring blood flow confined by at least one vessel wall, the system comprising: at least one implantable diffraction-grating transducer being embedded within or adjacent to a vessel wall, the diffraction-grating transducer being suitable for emitting ultrasound into or receiving Doppler shifted ultrasound from the blood flow;and, a source for pulse-exciting the implantable diffraction grating;wherein, the Doppler shift is indicative of the blood flow.
  2. 2
The system of Claim 1 , further comprising at least one slab transducer being embedded in the vessel wall, said at least one slab transducer being suitable for transmitting or receiving the ultrasound.
  3. 3
The system of Claim 3, wherein said received ultrasound is further indicative of flow direction.
  4. 4
The system of Claim 2, wherein said at least one slab transducer is in a different plane from said at least one diffraction-grating transducer.
  5. 5
The system of Claim 1 , wherein said vessel is an artificial graft.
  6. 6
The system of Claim 1 , wherein said pulsed ultrasound signals comprise many frequencies.
  7. 7
The system of Claim 1 , wherein said Doppler shift is frequency independent.
  8. 8
The system of Claim 1 , wherein said at least one diffraction- grating transducer comprises a plurality of diffraction-grating transducers.
  9. 9
A system for monitoring blood flow confined by at least one vessel wall, the system comprising:a diffraction-grating transducer being embedded within or substantially adjacent to the vessel wall;and, another implantable transducer being embedded within or substantially adjacent to the vessel wall;wherein, said diffraction grating transducer and other transducer are adapted to transmit ultrasound signals into the blood flow and receive Doppler shifted ultrasound signals from the blood flow, wherein said Doppler shifting is indicative of the blood flow.
  10. 10
The system of Claim 9, wherein said other transducer is a diffraction grating transducer.
  11. 11
A method for monitoring blood flow confined by at least one vessel wall, the system comprising:positioning at least one implantable diffraction-grating transducer within or adjacent to the vessel wall, the diffraction-grating transducer being suitable for emitting ultrasound into or receiving Doppler shifted ultrasound from the blood flow;and, pulse-exciting the implantable diffraction grating;wherein, the Doppler shift is indicative of the blood flow.
