System for monitoring health, wellness and fitness

Abstract

A detecting, monitoring and reporting system includes a sensor device which generates data indicative of physiological parameters of an individual and data derived therefrom when placed in proximity with the body. A remote central monitoring unit generates analytical status data from the data indicative of physiological parameters, the derived data, and analytical status data that has previously been generated. A data storage device stores the data received and generated by the central monitoring unit. The system includes means for establishing electronic communication between the sensor device and the central monitoring unit, and means for transmitting the data to a recipient. The sensor device may also generate data indicative of contextual parameters of the individual, which may then be used when generating the analytical status data. The system may be used for monitoring and providing feedback relating to the degree to which an individual has followed a suggested routine.

  1. 1
A system for detecting, monitoring, and reporting an individual's physiological or contextual status, comprising:a first sensor adapted to generate data indicative of a first parameter of said individual if said first sensor is in proximity to said individual;a second sensor adapted to generate data indicative of a second parameter of said individual if said second sensor is in proximity to said individual;a processing unit in electronic communication with said first sensor and said second sensor;a central monitoring unit in electronic communication with said sensors or said processing unit;andan output means in electronic communication with said processing unit or said central monitoring unit, characterized in that said first parameter is a physiological parameter and in that processing unit or said central monitoring unit is programmed (a) to use both of said data indicative of a first parameter and said data indicative of a second parameter to generate at least one of a derived physiological or a derived contextual status parameter of said individual, and (b) to cause said output means to present to a user indicators of said at least one derived physiological status or derived contextual status parameter of said individual in relation to indicators of at least one of (i) said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, (ii) said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual, and (iii) another derived physiological or contextual status parameter of said individual.
  2. 3
The system of any of the preceding claims 1 wherein said first sensor and said second sensor are in a unitary device.
  3. 5
The system of claims 3 or 4 wherein said unitary device is wearable.
  4. 6
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said system further comprises an input means to enable a user to enter data into the system.
  5. 8
The system of any of the preceding claims further comprising a means for providing life activities data of said individual to said system.
  6. 10
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said at least one derived physiological or contextual status parameter of said individual is said individual's energy expenditure.
  7. 14
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said user is an authorized user or said individual.
  8. 15
The system of any one of claims 11-14 wherein said database is stored on a network storage device.
  9. 16
The system of any one of claims 11-15 wherein either the processing unit or the central monitoring unit is programmed receive a query from a user, to access said database, to cause said output means to generate a report based on said query with data from said database.
  10. 17
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein either said processing unit or said central monitoring unit is programmed to generate feedback data relating to the degree to which said individual has achieved one or more preset goals, said feedback data being generated from at least a portion of at least one of said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual and said derived data, said processing unit or said central monitoring unit programmed to cause said output means to provide said feedback information to a user.
  11. 19
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said output means is at least one of a personal computer, a personal digital assistant, a pager, and a mobile phone.
  12. 20
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said indicators are visual.
  13. 21
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said indicators are in audio form.
  14. 22
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said indicators are tactile.
  15. 23
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said central monitoring unit is adapted to generate one or more web pages comprising data generated by the system, and wherein said output means makes said web pages accessible to a user over the Internet.
  16. 26
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said system is fee based.
  17. 27
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said indicators are indicators of life activities, activities of daily living, data entered by user, said individual's activity level, stress of individual, mind centering of individual, sleep of individual, energy expenditure of individual, or how the individual feels.
  18. 28
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein at least one of said indicators are compared to a baseline parameter or indicator of the individual.
  19. 29
The system of any of the preceding claims wherein said central monitoring unit or said processing unit is programmed to provide suggestions, said suggestions being based on said relationship of said indicators to one another.
