Claims of equivalent WO 2005001517 A2 What is claimed is:CLAIMS 1. A light guide array, comprising: a supporting material;and a plurality of light guides formed in the supporting material, each of the light guides having an entrance aperture for receiving light and an exit aperture for outputting light.
  2. 15
An optical system, comprising:a light source;an elliptical minor for reflecting light from the light source;and a light guide array for receiving the reflected light, the light guide array including a supporting material and a plurality of light guides formed in the supporting material, each of the light guides having an entrance aperture for receiving light and an exit aperture for outputting light.
  3. 19
A method of fabricating a light guide array, comprising:providing a layer of supporting material;forming a patterned masking layer on the supporting material defining a plurality of light guide tunnels;etching the layer of supporting material that is not covered by the masking layer to form the light guide tunnels;and depositing reflective material on the interior surfaces of the light guide tunnels.
  4. 20
A method of fabricating a light guide array, comprising:providing a substrate;forming a patterned masking layer on the substrate defining a plurality of light guide pipes;and implanting ions in the unmasked portions of the substrate to form a plurality of implant regions, each of the implant regions having a refractive index different from that of the substrate .
  5. 21
A system for illuminating an object, comprising:a light source;first optical means including a plurality of light guides for receiving light energy emitted from the light source;and second optical means for directing light energy output from the first optical means onto the object.
