Claims of equivalent WO 2004095240 A2 CLAIMS:What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus comprising: a detector to receive a first substantially fixed voltage and to detect a level of a second voltage, the detector to output a code signal responsive to the detected level of the second voltage;and a control circuit to determine a frequency of a clock signal in response to the code signal.
  2. 10
An apparatus comprising:a first ring oscillator to provide a first oscillating signal, the first ring oscillator to receive a first supply voltage, a frequency of the first oscillating signal to vary in response to variations in the first supply voltage;a source to provide a second oscillating signal;and a counter coupled to receive the first oscillating signal at a first input and the second oscillating signal at a second input, the counter to output a code responsive to the relative frequencies of the first and second oscillating signals.
  3. 18
An apparatus comprising:a droop detector to detect variations in a first supply voltage, the droop detector including a ring oscillator having an input coupled to receive the first supply voltage, a frequency to voltage converter having an input coupled to an output of the ring oscillator, and an analog to digital converter having an input coupled to an output of the frequency to voltage converter and an output to provide a code to indicate a level of the first supply voltage.
  4. 25
An integrated circuit chip comprising:a first clock generator to generate a first clock signal having a first frequency;at least a second clock generator to generate a second clock signal having a second frequency;a droop detector to receive a substantially fixed first supply voltage and to detect a level of one of a second supply voltage or a temperature, the droop detector to output a frequency code in response to the detected level;and a control circuit to receive the frequency code and to selectively output one of the at least first and second clock signals based on the frequency code.
  5. 36
An integrated circuit comprising:at least first and second droop detector circuits, each of the first and second droop detector circuits to receive a voltage signal to be monitored, and at least first and second droop history registers coupled to the respective droop detector circuits, each of the first and second droop history registers to store data indicating one of a minimum and a maximum voltage detected by the respective droop detector circuit in a given time period.
  6. 43
A computer system comprising:a processor including at least a first droop detector coupled to receive a first substantially fixed supply voltage, the first droop detector to detect a level of a second supply voltage, a mass storage device, an input device, and a bus to communicate information between the processor, the input device and the mass storage device.
  7. 47
A method comprising:detecting one of a voltage and temperature level using a circuit that receives a substantially fixed first supply voltage level, providing a code based on the detected level, and determining an output clock frequency in response to the code.
