  1. 1
An apparatus (100) for wrapping a load (124) during a wrapping cycle, comprising:a dispenser (102) for dispensing a film web (112);means for providing relative rotation (1 04a, 122) between the load (124) and the dispenser (102) during the wrapping cycle to wrap the film web (112) around the load (124);an upstream guide roller (132) and a downstream guide roller (137), characterized in that at least one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) is movable into a film driving position to drive at least a portion of the film web (112) from a first elevation to a second elevation lower than the first elevation, and is movable out of the film driving position;and at least one roping element (134, 136, 136a, 136b) positioned adjacent to and configured to work with one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) to roll an edge portion (112a, 112b) of the film web (112) into a rolled cable of film.
  2. 7
The apparatus (100) of any of claims 4-6, characterized in that the at least one roping element (134, 136, 136a, 136b) is a cable rolling roper (134).
  3. 12
A method for wrapping a load (124) with a film web (112) during a wrapping cycle, comprising:dispensing a film web (112) from a film dispenser (102);providing relative rotation between the dispenser (102) and the load (124) during the wrapping cycle to wrap the film web (112) around the load (124);and characterized in that the method further comprises: moving at least one of an upstream guide roller (132) and a downstream guide roller (137) into a film driving position to drive at least a portion of the film web (112) from a first elevation to a second elevation lower than the first elevation;moving at least one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) away from the film driving position;and rolling an edge portion (112a, 112b) of the film web (112) into a rolled cable of film with at least one roping element (134, 136, 136a, 136b) positioned adjacent to one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137).
  4. 17
The method of any one of claims 12-16, characterized in that moving at least one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) away from the film driving position includes changing an angle at which at least one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) is tilted from a first angle to a second angle, different from the first angle.
  5. 18
The method of any one of claims 12-17, characterized in that moving at least one of the upstream and downstream guide rollers (132, 137) away from the film driving position includes disengaging the downstream guide roller (137) from the film web (112) as it extends in a film path between the dispenser (102) and the load (124).
  6. 19
The method of any one of claims 12-18, characterized in that a bottom portion (124a) of the load is wrapped with the at least one of the upstream guide roller (132) and the downstream guide roller (137) in the film driving position.
  7. 20
The method of any one of claims 12-19, characterized in that a portion of the load (124) other than the bottom portion (124a) is wrapped with the at least one of the upstream guide roller (132) and the downstream guide roller (137) away from the film driving position.
