  1. 1
A thermal management system for electronic components (102), comprising:a plastic coldplate (100;200;210;220;230;240;300;310;320) having a mounting surface (201;217;227;231;243;303;313;323) for mounting one or more electronic components (102);one or more passageways disposed within the plastic coldplate, the passageways configured to have a fluid flow therethrough;and a highly conductive material disposed within the plastic coldplate and thermally coupled to the mounting surface, the highly conductive material operable to transfer heat from the mounting surface to the fluid flow.
  2. 4
The system of any preceding claim, wherein the highly conductive material comprises a waffle panel (222;232).
  3. 6
The system of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the plastic coldplate (240) is formed from two separate pieces (247, 248) and the passageways (246) are separated from one another.
  4. 8
The system of any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the one or more passageways comprises a tube (214) disposed within the plastic coldplate (210) in a boustrophedonic manner and wherein the highly conductive material comprises a plurality of fins (212) coupled to the tube (214).
  5. 9
The system of any preceding claim, wherein the one or more passageways comprise one or more tubes (202) disposed within the plastic coldplate (200) and wherein the highly conductive material comprises one or more enclosures (204) coupled to the tubes (202) in series.
  6. 10
The system of any preceding claim, wherein the plastic coldplate (100;200;210;220;230;240;300;310;320) is housed within a highly conductive housing, the mounting surface (201;217;227;231;243;303;313;323) associated with the housing.
  7. 11
A thermal management method for electronic components (102), comprising:mounting one or more electronic components (102) on a mounting surface (201;217;227;231;243;303;313;323) of a plastic coldplate (100;200;210;220;230;240;300;310;230), the plastic coldplate having one or more passageways disposed therein that are configured to have a fluid flow therethrough;disposing a highly conductive material within the plastic coldplate;and thermally coupling the highly conductive material to the mounting surface to transfer heat from the mounting surface to the fluid flow during operation of the electronic components.
  8. 12
The method of Claim 11, wherein the electronic components comprise an Active Electronically Scanned Array.
  9. 14
The method of any one of claims 11 to 13, wherein thermally coupling the highly conductive material to the mounting surface (227) comprises disposing a waffle panel (222) within a housing (223) and engaging one or more projections (224) of the housing (223) with respective portions (228) of the mounting surface (227).
  10. 15
The method of any one of claims 11 to 14, further comprising separating the passageways from one another.
  11. 16
The method of any one of claims 11 to 15, wherein the one or more passageways comprises a tube disposed within the plastic coldplate in a boustrophedonic manner and wherein the highly conductive material comprises a plurality of fins coupled to the tube.
  12. 17
The method of any one of claims 11 to 16, further comprising housing the plastic coldplate (100;200;210;220;230;240;300;310;320) within a highly conductive housing, the mounting surface (201;217;227;231;243;303;313;323) associated with the housing.
