  1. 1
A method of reservoir targeting, comprising:filtering (1006) a plurality of values in a three-dimensional model to eliminate values which are below a threshold to create a filtered three-dimensional model;developing (1008) a first matrix from the filtered three-dimensional model representing a two-dimensional model of the reservoir, wherein the first matrix includes a plurality of cell center locations, cell areas (402-412) and the filtered plurality of values;wherein developing the first matrix comprises windowing one or more cells from the filtered three-dimensional model, using a window determined based on the number of layers in the filtered three-dimensional model of the reservoir, to determine cell center locations with values of interest;developing (1010) a second matrix from the first matrix using a distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values, such that the second matrix is populated by using the first matrix to calculate a distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values (1012);and selecting target locations (1014,1016) from the second matrix based on the distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values.
  2. 9
A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for controlling a processor, when the instructions are carried out on a computer, to perform a method comprising:filtering (1006) a plurality of values in a three-dimensional model to eliminate values which are below a threshold to create a filtered three-dimensional model;developing (1008) a first matrix from the filtered three-dimensional model representing a two-dimensional model of the reservoir, wherein the first matrix includes a plurality of cell center locations, cell areas (402-412), and the filtered plurality of values;wherein developing the first matrix comprises windowing one or more cells from the filtered three-dimensional model, using a window determined based on the number of layers in the filtered three-dimensional model of the reservoir, to determine cell center locations with values of interest;developing (1010) a second matrix from the first matrix using a distance- weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values, such that the second matrix is populated by using the first matrix to calculate a distance-weighted sum of the filtered values (1012);and selecting target locations (1014,1016) from the second matrix based on the distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values.
  3. 17
A computer system (110,120,130,140), comprising:a user interface (110,120);memory storage means (140);a processor coupled to the user interface and the memory storage means (140), the processor configured to: filter a plurality of values in a three-dimensional model to eliminate values which are below a threshold to create a filtered three-dimensional model;develop a first matrix from the filtered three-dimensional model representing a two-dimensional model of the reservoir, wherein the first matrix includes a plurality of cell center locations, cell areas (402-412), and the filtered plurality of values;wherein developing the first matrix comprises windowing one or more cells from the filtered three-dimensional model, using a window determined based on the number of layers in the filtered three-dimensional model of the reservoir, to determine cell center locations with values of interest;develop a second matrix from the first matrix using a distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values, such that the second matrix is populated by using the first matrix to calculate a distance-weighted sum of the filtered values;select target locations from the second matrix based on the distance-weighted sum of the filtered plurality of values;and display on the user interface (110,120) the selected target locations.
