  1. 1
A security method for a wireless communication system, which includes at least one computer or processor, at least one display, and a plurality of wired or wireless communications components (3202) positioned at different locations within a physical environment, comprising:displaying a site-specific computerized representation (3200) of a physical environment in which a communications system is deployed;said display, based on instructions from at least one computer or processor, identifying at least one of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) and their locations in said site-specific computerized representation (3200) of said physical environment, at least one of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) being a network device, characterized in that : distributing a plurality of RF tags (3203) within said physical environment, each of said plurality of RF tags (3203) being associated with at least one item in said physical environment and the number of said plurality of RF tags being variable, at least one of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components communicating via wireless communication with said plurality of RF tags(3203);processing information, by a data processor, from said plurality of RF tags (3203) based on said wireless communication between said at least one of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) and said plurality of said RF tags (3203);and identifying the presence of, or a physical location of, or information pertaining to one or more RF tags by presenting an indicator in said site-specific computerized representation of said physical environment on said display when one or more of the following is received: a) one or more erroneous authentication requests, b) or other undesired transmissions received by said network device or said access point, or c) data is received, stored or processed from one or more RF tags, or wireless devices or components in the communications system;displaying a position and location of one or more of said RF tags in said site-specific computerized representation of said physical environment based on said wireless communication between said at least one of said wireless communication components and said one or more of said RF tags, the number of RF tags displayed in said site-specific computerized representation being variable and corresponding to the number of RF tags in said physical environment.
  2. 4
The security method according to one of claims 1 to 3 further comprising the steps of:archiving records of other network devices (3202) which interact with said network device in a storage device;and identifying the presence or a physical location within said physical environment of a possible intruder or intruder devices (2700) by presenting an indicator (2702) in said site-specific computerized representation of said physical environment on said display when another network device attempts to interact with said network device which has not previously interacted with said network device as determined from records archived on said storage device.
  3. 7
The security method according to one of the claims 1 to 6 comprising the steps of:using a data processor associated with said display to retrieve or store or process information that describes each of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) and to identify a pre-defined communication method for at least some of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202);and selectively presenting graphical or textual information or a combination of graphical and textual information from said data processor pertaining to one or more of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) when one or more graphical icons associated with said one or more of said plurality of wired or wireless communication components (3202) are selectively identified on said display.
  4. 10
The security method of claims 7, 8 or 9 wherein at least one of said plurality of wireless communication components is mobile, and further comprising the step of graphically representing movement of said at least one wireless communication component that is mobile on said display.
  5. 11
The security method of one of claims 7 to 10, further comprising the step of provisioning bandwidth for at least one of said plurality wired or wireless communications (3202) components within said physical environment using said data processor.
