Thymosin beta 4 promotes wound repair

Abstract

The present invention relates to methods for promoting tissue repair, angiogenesis and cell migration. The method of the invention utilizes thymosin β4 (Tβ4) peptide to promote tissue repair, angiogenesis and cell migration. The invention further relates to modulating Tβ4 activity in tissues.

    The use of a composition comprising:(i) a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence LKKTET or a conservative variant thereof, wherein the polypeptide comprises the properties of having actin sequestering or actin binding capability and wound healing activity, and(ii) a second agent capable of stimulating the production of thymosin β4, wherein the second agent is selected from the group consisting of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), thymosin α1 (T α1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),    in the manufacture of a medicament for promotion of wound healing activity.

    The use of a composition comprising a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence LKKTET or a conservative variant thereof, wherein the polypeptide comprises properties of having actin sequestering or actin binding capability and anti-inflammatory activity, in the manufacture of a medicament for reducing inflammation in an eye of a subject.
