  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2004072689 A2 What is Claimed is:1. A lens for spherical or higher order aberration correction in a human vision treatment, comprising: a lens body defining an optical axis, first and second surfaces layers and an interior phase that extends adjacent to at least one surface layer;and a plurality of displacement structures disposed in a fixed pattern over a lateral region in the interior phase of the lens body, wherein said displacement structures are individually actuatable to alter an optical characteristic of the lens body at the location of the displacement structure, and wherein the displacement structures have a selected scale that allows for correcting higher order aberrations.
  2. 16
A method for adjusting an optical characteristic of vision correction lens, said method comprising:selectively applying energy to a subpattern of displacement elements in a body of the lens, wherein the displacement elements respond individually to the energy to adjust the optical characteristic of lens at the locations of the subpattern of adaptive elements.
  3. 19
A method for correcting higher order aberrations in a vision correction lens, said method comprising the steps of:providing a lens body defining an optical axis, first and second surfaces layers and an interior phase that extends adjacent to at least one surface layer, and a pattern of disptacement structures disposed in a fixed pattern over a lateral region in the interior phase of the lens body, wherein the displacement structures have a scale that allows for correcting higher order aberrations;and selectively applying energy to a pattern of targeted media elements in the lens body, wherein the media elements respond individually to the energy thereby altering pressure in individual displacement structures;wherein the altering pressure step adjusts the optical characteristic of lens at the location of the displacement structure.
