Semantic programming language and linguistic object model

Abstract

A software development tool for programming natural language software applications is provided. The software development tool includes a programming language and a compiler. The programming language has a set of programming constructs for facilitating natural language programming. The compiler is adapted to take a software program containing instances of the set of programming constructs and to generate a software application.

50 claims: 7 independent, 43 dependent

  1. 1
A linguistic object model adapted to model semantic elements of a natural language, the linguistic object model comprising:a set of types for modeling semantics of natural language, the set of types being independent of any particular natural language.
  2. 12
A computer readable medium storing computer readable data structures utilized to model natural language, comprising:a linguistic object model comprising a set of types for modeling semantics of natural language, the set of types being independent of any particular application.
  3. 19
A software development tool for programming natural language software applications, the software development tool comprising:a programming language comprising a set of programming constructs for facilitating natural language programming;and a compiler adapted to take a software program containing instances of the set of programming constructs and to generate a software application.
  4. 31
A framework for generating a semantic interpretation of a natural language input comprising:an interpreter adapted to mediate between a client application and one or more analysis engines to produce interpretations of the natural language input that are valid for the client application;a first set of types adapted to define interactions between the interpreter and the one or more analysis engines;and a second set of types adapted to define interactions between the interpreter and the client application.
  5. 33
The framework of the claim 31 further comprising:a linguistic object model comprising a set of modeling types adapted to model semantic elements of a natural language, the set of modeling types being independent of any particular natural language.
  6. 38
A lexical semantic structure for modeling semantics of a natural language input on a computer comprising:a set of lexical semantic categories selected to model content of the natural language input;and a methodology for associating content of the natural language input to one or more categories of the set of lexical semantic categories.
  7. 43
A set of resolvable types adapted to model semantics of a natural language for natural language programming, the set of resolvable types comprising:a command type adapted to model commands in a natural language input;and a restriction host type adapted to represent non-command elements of the natural language input, the restriction host type adapted to associate to selected command types or to other restriction host types that are transitively associated with a selected command type based on the natural language input, the restriction host type adapted to host constraints of the selected command types at runtime.
