Abstract

A speakerphone (100) with a jack (130) or a plug to allow a full featured speakerphone to be used with a wireless telephone handset (140). In one embodiment, a jack (130) is installed on a speakerphone (100). A cable (136) can connect the speakerphone (100) using this jack (130) and a headset jack on wireless phone handset (140). In another embodiment, the cable is embedded in the speakerphone. In another embodiment, the speakerphone is operated by an internal power source.

    A speakerphone comprising:a first link (150) for connecting to a telephone network (160);a microphone (102, 104, 106);a loudspeaker (112, 114);a connecting means (130;136);andan electronic module (120) coupled to the first link (150), the microphone (102, 104, 106), the loudspeaker (112, 114) and the connecting means (130;136),    wherein the electronic module (120) is operable to receive a first signal from the telephone network (160) via the first link (150) and to reproduce the signal as sound via the loudspeaker (112, 114);wherein the electronic module (120) is operable to receive a second signal from the microphone (102, 104, 106) and to send a third signal to the telephone network (160) via the first link;wherein the electronic module (120) is operable to receive a fourth signal from the connecting means (130;136) and reproduce the signal as sound via the loudspeaker (112, 114);and    wherein the electronic module (120) is operable to receive the second signal from the microphone (102, 104, 106) and send a fifth signal to the connecting means (130;136).

    The speakerphone in Claim 1, wherein the connecting means is a jack (130).

    The speakerphone in Claim 1,    wherein the connecting means is a cable (136) having a first end and a second end;wherein the first end of the cable (136) is coupled to the electronic module (120) and the second end comprises a plug (134);and    wherein the electronic module (120) is operable to receive the fourth signal from the plug (134) and to send the fifth signal to the plug (134).

    The speakerphone in any of Claims 1 to 3, further comprising an internal power source coupled to the electronic module (120) to power the speakerphone (100).

    A method for using a speakerphone with a wireless phone handset to setup a conference call, wherein the speakerphone comprises an interface to a telephone network, the method comprising:connecting a headphone output of the wireless phone handset (140) to a loudspeaker (112, 114) in the speakerphone (100);connecting a microphone output of the speakerphone (100) to the external microphone input of the wireless phone (140);connecting a far end party via the wireless phone handset (140);receiving a first signal from the far end and reproducing the signal as sound via the loudspeaker (112, 114) in the speakerphone (100);andreceiving a second signal from the microphone (102, 104, 106) in the speakerphone (100) and sending a third signal to the far end.

    The method in claim 26 further comprising:powering the speakerphone (200) with a portable power source.
