  1. 1
A method for forming a flexible container (10) for combined storage and administration, the method comprising the steps of:providing a flexible front sheet (12);providing a flexible rear sheet (14) the front and rear sheets (12, 14) sealed together at a common peripheral edge (16);heating the front and rear sheets (12, 14) in a first localized area to fuse together the heated portions of the adjoining surfaces, thereby forming a first peelable seal (24) extending between two sides of the common peripheral edge (16) comprising a side formed with intervening spaces defining a first channel (112a) and a second channel (112b), the first peelable seal (24) separably joining the front and rear sheets (12, 14) to thereby form a first compartment (18) for containing a first product;heating the front and rear sheets (12, 14) in a second localized area to fuse together the heated portions of the adjoining surfaces, thereby forming a second peelable seal (26) extending between the two sides of the common peripheral edge (16), the second peelable seal separably joining the front and rear sheets (12, 14) to thereby form an outlet compartment (22) and a second compartment (20) for containing a second product, the second compartment (20) being between the outlet compartment (22) and the first compartment (18);characterized by : providing first and second sacrificial ports (102, 104) interposed between the front and rear sheets (12, 14) wherein the first and second sacrificial ports (102, 104) are in communication with the first and second compartments (18, 20) via the first channel (112a) and the second channel (112b), respectively;filling the first compartment (18) with a first product through the first sacrificial port (102);filling the second compartment (20) with a second product through the second sacrificial port (104);and completing the seal along the side formed with the intervening spaces and removing the sacrificial ports (102, 104) from the container (10).
  2. 12
The method according to claims 9 or 11, wherein the opaque, high-barrier protective covering comprises:an opaque, peelable, multi-layer laminate including;a modified ethylenevinylacetate polymer layer comprising the inwardly facing surface of said laminate;a polyester polymer layer, having a higher melting temperature than said modified ethylenevinylacetate polymer layer comprising the outwardly facing surface of said laminate;and an aluminium foil layer intermediate the modified ethylenevinylacetate and polyester layers.
  3. 13
The method according to claims 10 or 11, wherein the clear high-barrier laminate film comprises:a polypropylene inner layer adjacent the container front sheet;an outer layer comprising polyester;and a clear, transparent high-moisture barrier between the inner and outer layers.
  4. 26
A flexible container (10) having a first product and a second product for combined storage and administration thereof, the container comprising:a flexible rear sheet (14);a flexible front sheet (12) sealed to the rear sheet (14) along a common peripheral edge (16), which comprises a side having intervening spaces defining a first channel (112a) and a second channel (112b);a first peelable seal (24) extending between two sides of the common peripheral edge (16) and separably joining the front and rear sheets (12, 14) to form a first compartment (18) containing the first product;a second peelable seal (26) extending between the two sides of the common peripheral edge (16) and separably joining the front and rear sheets (12, 14) to form thereby an outlet compartment (22) and a second compartment (20) containing the second product, the second compartment being intermediate the outlet compartment (22) and the first compartment (18);characterized in that : two removable sacrificial ports (102, 104) are interposed between the front and rear sheets (12, 14) of the container (10) and are in fluid communication with the first compartment (18) and the second compartment (20) via the first channel (112a) and the second channel (112b) for filling the first compartment (18) and the second compartment (20) with the first product and the second product;and wherein the side formed with the intervening spaces are sealable and the two removable sacrificial ports (102, 104) are removable to close off the first compartment (18) and the second compartment (20).
  5. 34
A flexible container as defined in claims 31 or 33, wherein the opaque, high- barrier protective covering comprises:an opaque, peelable, multi-layer laminate including: a modified ethylenevinylacetate polymer layer comprising the inwardly facing surface of said laminate;a polyester polymer layer, having a higher melting temperature than said modified ethylenevinylacetate polymer layer comprising the outwardly facing surface of said laminate;and an aluminium foil layer intermediate the modified ethylenevinylacetate and polyester layers.
  6. 35
A flexible container as defined in claims 32 or 33, wherein the clear high-barrier laminate film comprises:a polypropylene inner layer adjacent the container front sheet;an outer layer comprising polyester;and a clear, transparent high-moisture barrier between the inner and outer layers.
