  1. 1
A method of managing overwrite on an optical disc write once, the disc having a data area and at least one management area, the data area including a spare area, the method comprising steps of:(a) requesting to overwrite data in a specified area and if the specified area contains data recorded therein, writing said data onto a replacement area in the data area and (b) recording, onto the management area, a pair of entries for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is a plurality of recording-units, wherein one of the entries of the pair of entries includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, and the other entry includes end address information of the specified area and end address information of the replacement area, wherein the pair of entries are consecutive to each other and each of the entries of the pair of entries includes status information discriminating whether a corresponding entry is either a first entry or a second entry following the first entry, or (c) recording, onto the management area, a single entry for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit;wherein the single entry includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area;wherein the status information further discriminates the pair of entries from the single entry which is recorded when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit.
  2. 4
The method of one of claims 1 to 3, wherein each recording-unit has a size of one cluster.
  3. 5
An apparatus for recording data to an optical disc write once, the disc having a data area and at least one management area, the data area including a spare area, the apparatus comprising:a pickup (11) configured to record data onto the disc;a data processor (13) configured to process a signal read/recorded from/onto the pickup (11);a servo (14) configured to control the pickup (11) to accurately record/read the signal to/from the disc;a microcomputer (16) configured to control the pickup (11), the data processor (13) and the servo (14), wherein the microcomputer is configured to transfer, to the data processor (13) and the servo (14), position information of a replacement area in the data area and data requested to be overwritten in a specified area containing data recorded therein so as to record, onto the replacement area of the data area, the data requested to be overwritten, and record a pair of entries for managing the specified area and the replacement area onto the management area, when the size of the specified area is a plurality of recording-units, or record a single entry for managing the specified area and the replacement area onto the management area when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit, wherein one of the entries of the pair of entries includes start address information of the specified area -and start address information of the replacement area, and the other entry includes end address information of the specified area and end address information of the replacement area, wherein the pair of entries are consecutive to each other and each of the entries of the pair of entries includes status information discriminating whether a corresponding entry is either a first entry or a second entry following the first entry, wherein the single entry includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, wherein the status information further discriminates the pair of entries from the single entry which is recorded when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit.
  4. 7
The apparatus of one of claims 5 to 6, wherein each recording-unit has a size of one cluster.
  5. 8
An optical disc write once comprising a data area including a spare area, the data area having an area usable as a replacement area onto which data requested to be overwritten in a specified area containing data recorded therein is to be recorded;and at least one management area for storing management information for managing the data requested to be overwritten, wherein, when the size of the specified area, is a plurality of recording-units, the management area stores therein a pair of entries for managing the specified area and the replacement area;one of the entries of the pair of entries including start address information of a specified area and start address information of the replacement area, and the other entry including end address information of the specified area and end address information of the replacement area, and when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit, the management area stores therein a single entry for managing the specified area and the replacement area, wherein the pair of entries are consecutive to each other and each of the entries of the pair of entries includes status information discriminating whether a corresponding entry is either a first entry or a second entry following the first entry, wherein the single entry includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, wherein the status information further discriminates the pair of entries from the single entry which is recorded when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit.
  6. 11
The disc of one of claims 8 to 10, wherein each recording-unit has a size of one cluster.
  7. 12
A method of reproducing data on an optical disc write once, the disc having a data area and at least one management area, the data area including a spare area, the method comprising steps of:(a) receiving a command requesting to reproduce data from a specified area replaced with a replacement area: and (b) reproducing data from the replacement area with reference to a pair of entries for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is a plurality of recording-units, wherein one of the entries of the pair of entries includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, and the other entry includes end address information of the area and end address of the replacement area, wherein the pair of entries are consecutive to each other and each of the entries of the pair of entries includes status information discriminating whether a corresponding entry is either a first entry or a second entry following the first entry, or (c) reproducing data from the replacement area with reference to a single entry for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit, wherein the single entry includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, wherein the status information further discriminates the pair of entries from the single entry which is recorded when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit.
  8. 14
An apparatus for reproducing data on an optical disc write once, the disc having a data area and at least one management area, the data area including a spare area, the apparatus comprising:a pickup (11) configured to reproduce data from the disc;a data processor (13) configured to process a signal read from the pickup (11);a servo (14) configured to control the pickup (11) to accurately read the signal from the disc;a microcomputer (16) configured to control the pickup (11), the data processor (13) and the servo (14), wherein the microcomputer is configured to receive a command requesting to reproduce data from a specified area replaced with a replacement area;and the microcomputer is configured to transfer, to the data processor (13) and the servo (14), position information of the replacement area with reference to a pair of entries for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is a Plurality of recording-units so as to reproduce data from the replacement area, wherein one of the entries of the pair of entries includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, and the other entry includes end address information of the specified area and end address of the replacement area, wherein the pair of entries are consecutive to each other and each of the entries of the pair of entries includes status information discriminating whether a corresponding entry is either a first entry or a second entry following the first entry, or the microcomputer is configured to transfer, to the data processor (13) and the servo (14), position information of the replacement area with reference to a single entry for managing the specified area and the replacement area when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit so as to reproduce data from the replacement area, wherein the single entry includes start address information of the specified area and start address information of the replacement area, wherein the status information further discriminates the pair of entries from the single entry which is recorded when the size of the specified area is one recording-unit.
