Claims of equivalent WO 2004060148 A2 CLAIMS Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:1. A dressing assembly for a wound or incision, which comprises: an external patient interface including an external fluid transfer component, said fluid transfer component being adapted for transferring fluid from the closed wound or incision;said external patient interface including an overdrape placed over said fluid transfer component in contact with a surrounding skin surface;and a reclosable seal strip connected to said overdrape and having a closed position sealing same and an open position providing access to said fluid transfer component therethrough.
  2. 23
A dressing assembly for a wound or incision, which comprises:an external patient interface including a fluid transfer component, said fluid transfer component being adapted for transferring fluid from the closed wound or incision;said fluid transfer component including a foam core and a wicking material piece fluidically communicating with said foam core;said external patient interface including an overdrape placed over said fluid transfer component in contact with a surrounding skin surface;and a pressure source connected to the fluid transfer component.
  3. 26
A method of dressing a wound or incision, which method comprises the steps of:providing a fluid transfer component with a foam material core;placing the fluid transfer component on the patient in fluidic connection with the wound or incision;providing an overdrape and placing same over the fluid transfer component;providing a wicking material and placing same between the foam material core and the wound or incision;providing said overdrape with a seal strip having closed and open positions;opening said seal strip;and accessing said fluid transfer component through said open seal strip.
  4. 31
A method of dressing a wound or incision, which comprises the steps of:providing an external patient interface including a fluid transfer component;providing said fluid transfer component with a foam core and a wicking material piece fluidically communicating with said foam core;providing said external patient interface with an overdrape;placing said fluid transfer component over said fluid transfer component and contacting a surrounding skin surface with same;connecting a pressure source to the fluid transfer component and forming a pressure gradients across same;and transferring fluid from the wound or incision through the fluid transfer component in response to said pressure gradient.
  5. 32
A system for applying fluid pressure to tissue, which system includes:a dressing including a dressing cover with an interior opening;said dressing cover being adapted for mounting on a patient's skin;said dressing including a force transfer component positioned in said dressing cover and adapted for interacting with the patient through said opening;and a fluid port in said dressing cover, said fluid port being adapted for fluidic communication with said transfer component.
  6. 41
A method of treating a patient tissue separation with healthy tissue adjacent to said separation, which method comprises the steps of:providing a dressing with a dressing cover having a central opening;adhering said dressing cover to said patient with said opening located over at least a portion of said tissue separation;providing a force transfer assembly in said dressing cover;connecting said dressing cover to a pressure source;applying a pressure force to said transfer assembly;and transferring said pressure force through said transfer assembly and through said base ring opening to said patient.
