A device for placement between the hands of a person performing chest compression and the chest of a patient

Abstract

Device to be used during chest compression in connection with CPR or for training, and more particular, a device for placement between the hands of a person performing CPR and the chest of a patient or manikin. The device is adapted to emit a sound when the chest compression is performed with a force that exceeds a predetermined value and optionally also emit a sound indication the intended frequency of the chest compression. Different mechanical and electronical embodiments are described, these includes an automatic switch that turns the electronic circuit on when the device is compressed and an embodiment having different predetermined forces depending on which side of the device is facing upwards.

5 claims: 4 independent, 1 dependent

  1. 1
A device for placement between the hands of a person performing chest compressions and the chest of a patient or a manikin, comprising:a first part (7) and a second part (8), said parts (7, 8) being moveable towards each other when a compression is performed, a return means (9) between said parts (7, 8) for moving said parts (7, 8) away from each other again when the compression is relieved, an electric power source (3) between said parts (7, 8), an electronic sound generating means (5) between said parts, and coupled to said power source (3), for generating a repeating sound indicating a desired compression rate characterised in that the device further comprises a mechanical sound generator (1) between said parts (7, 8) for generating a sound when said parts (7, 8) are moved towards each other with a force exceeding a pre-defined value, and a switch (2) between said parts (7, 8), said switch (2) being operated by the movement of said parts (7, 8) towards each other, and said switch (2) operably coupling said power source (3) to said electronic sound generating means (5).
  2. 3
Device according to claims 1 or 2, characterised in that said switch (2) includes a microphone or other piezoelectric means that is adapted to pick up the sound energy created by said mechanical sound generator (1) and utilize this energy to couple said power source (3) to said electronic sound generating means (5).
  3. 4
Device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the first occurrence of the repeating sound is adapted to occur after the first occurrence of the mechanical sound.
  4. 5
Device according to any of the preceding claims, characterised in that the repeating sound is adapted to be switched off and on by pressing the first and the second parts (7, 8) together with a sufficient force over a specified period of time.
