    Claims of equivalent WO 2004058124 A2 CLAIMS I claim:1. An apparatus for treating back pain comprising: a fixed first body support section;and a moveable second body support section moveable toward and away from said fixed first body support section, said second body support section having a pivotable support section configured to pivot with respect to the remainder of said second body support section.

    A method for treating back pain comprising the steps of:positioning a patient on a generally horizontal surface having a pivoting support configured to support a portion of said patient's body at an angle with respect to said generally horizontal surface;isolating a desired region of said patient's spine to receive a distraction force by modifying the angle of said pivoting support with respect to said generally horizontal surface to an angle that will cause a horizontally applied distraction force to be concentrated in said desired region;and applying a horizontal distraction force to said patient's spine.

    A system for treating lower back pain comprising:a table having a fixed first body support section, and a moveable second body support section moveable toward and away from said fixed first body support section, said second body support section having a pivotal support section configured to pivot with respect to the remainder of said second body support section;and a controller, said controller further comprising computer executable code operable to (i) modify the angular orientation of said pivotal support section to isolate a desired region of said patient's spine to receive a distraction force such that a horizontally applied distraction force applied to a patient lying prone on said table will be concentrated in said desired region, and (ii) cause said table to cyclically apply a disfraction force to said desired region of said patient's spine.
