15 claims: 3 independent, 12 dependent

  1. 1
A pneumatic tire (2) comprising a tread portion (2t), a pair of sidewall portions (2s), a pair of axially spaced bead portions (2b), an annular tire hollow forming a closed tire cavity (4) when the tire (2) is mounted on a wheel rim (3), a plurality of noise dampers (9) each made of a spongelike multi-cellular material and disposed in the tire hollow, the noise dampers (9) secured to an inner surface (4s 1 ) of the tread portion (2t) to extend in the circumferential direction of the tire at axially different positions, and the total volume of the noise dampers (9) being in a range of from 0.4 to 20 % of a volume of the tire cavity (4), characterized in that at least one of the noise dampers (9) is provided with a water-impermeable outer coating (11) to prevent water from infiltrating into the spongelike multi-cellular material.
  2. 13
A pneumatic tire comprising a tread portion (2t), a pair of sidewall portions (2s), a pair of axially spaced bead portions (2b), an annular tire hollow forming a closed tire cavity (4) when the tire is mounted on a wheel rim (3), and a noise damper (9) made of a spongelike multi-cellular material and disposed in the tire hollow to extend in the circumferential direction of the tire (2), characterized in that the noise damper (9) is provided with a water-impermeable outer coating (11) to prevent water from infiltrating into the spongelike multi-cellular material, and the damper (9) is disposed on a radially inner surface (4s 1 ) of the tread portion (2t).
  3. 14
A tire noise damper characterized by a strip (10) of a spongelike multi-cellular material having a specific gravity of from 0.005 to 0.06, and a water-impermeable outer coating (11) covering the entire surface of the strip (10) to prevent water from infiltrating thereinto.
