    Claims of equivalent WO 2004053879 A2 CLAIMS 1. A write receiver control circuit for use in a memory device to operate a plurality of write receivers in either a high-power, low write latency mode or a low-power, high write latency mode, the write receiver control circuit comprising a logic circuit receiving a first signal indicative of whether the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled, and a second signal indicative of whether read transmitters are active, the logic circuit being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the read transmitters are not active regardless of whether the write receivers are active, and to remove power from the write receivers when the read transmitters are active, the logic circuit further being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high-power, low write latency mode has not been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the write receivers are active and the read receivers are not active, and to remove power from the write receivers when either the write receivers are not active or the read transmitters are active.

    A memory device, comprising:a row address circuit operable to receive and decode row address signals applied to external address terminals of the memory device;a column address circuit operable to receive and decode column address signals applied to the external address terminals;an array of memory cells operable to store data written to or read from the array at a location determined by the decoded row address signals and the decoded column address signals;a data path circuit operable to couple data signals corresponding to the data between the array and external data terminals of the memory device, the data path circuit including a plurality of write receivers each coupled to a respective one of the external data terminals and a plurality of read transmitters each coupled to a respective one of the external data terminals;a command decoder operable to decode a plurality of command signals applied to respective external command terminals of the memory device, the command decoder being operable to generate control signals corresponding to the decoded command signals;a write receiver control circuit operating the write receivers in either a high- power, low write latency mode or a low-power, high write latency mode, the write receiver control circuit comprising a logic circuit receiving a first signal indicative of whether the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled, and a second signal indicative of whether read transmitters are active, the logic circuit being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the read transmitters are not active regardless of whether the write receivers are active, and to remove power from the write receivers when the read transmitters are active, the logic circuit further being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high-power, low write latency mode has not been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the write receivers are active and the read receivers are not active, and to remove power from the write receivers when either the write receivers are not active or the read transmitters are active;and a mode control circuit coupled to the write receiver control circuit, the mode control circuit generating the first signal and applying the first signal to the write receiver control circuit.

    A memory device, comprising:a row address circuit operable to receive and decode row address signals applied to external address terminals of the memory device;a column address circuit operable to receive and decode column address signals applied to the external address terminals;an array of memory cells operable to store data written to or read from the array at a location determined by the decoded row address signals and the decoded column address signals;a data path circuit operable to couple data signals corresponding to the data between the array and external data terminals of the memory device;a command decoder operable to decode a plurality of command signals applied to respective external command terminals of the memory device, the command decoder being operable to generate control signals corresponding to the decoded command signals;a write latency control circuit operable to set the write latency of the memory device independently of the read latency of the memory device.

    A computer system, comprising:a processor having a processor bus;an input device coupled to the processor through the processor bus to allow data to be entered into the cpmputer system;an output device coupled to the processor through the processor bus to allow data to be output from the computer system;a data storage device coupled to the processor through the processor bus to allow data to be read from a mass storage device;a memory controller coupled to the processor through the processor bus;and a memory device coupled to the memory controller, the memory device comprising: a row address circuit operable to receive and decode row address signals applied to external address terminals of the memory device;a column address circuit operable to receive and decode column address signals applied to the external address terminals;an array of memory cells operable to store data written to or read from the array at a location determined by the decoded row address signals and the decoded column address signals;a data path circuit operable to couple data signals corresponding to the data between the array and external data terminals of the memory device, the data path circuit including a plurality of write receivers each coupled to a respective one of the external data terminals and a plurality of read transmitters each coupled to a respective one of the external data terminals;a command decoder operable to decode a plurality of command signals applied to respective external command terminals of the memory device, the command decoder being operable to generate control signals corresponding to the decoded command signals;a write receiver control circuit operating the write receivers in either a high-power, low write latency mode or a low-power, high write latency mode, the write receiver control circuit comprising a logic circuit receiving a first signal indicative of whether the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled, and a second signal indicative of whether read transmitters are active, the logic circuit being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high-power, low write latency mode has been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the read transmitters are not active regardless of whether the write receivers are active, and to remove power from the write receivers when the read transmitters are active, the logic circuit further being operable responsive to the first signal indicating that the high- power, low write latency mode has not been enabled to apply power to the write receivers when the write receivers are active and the read receivers are not active, and to remove power from the write receivers when either the write receivers are not active or the read transmitters are active;and a mode control circuit coupled to the write receiver control circuit, the mode control circuit generating the first signal and applying the first signal to the write receiver control circuit.

    i a memory device having a plurality of write receivers for receiving respective data bits from a data bus and a plurality of read transmitters for applying respective data bits to a data bus, a method of operating the write receivers in either a high-power, low write latency mode or a low-power, high write latency mode, comprising:applying power to the write receivers when the read transmitters are not active regardless of whether the write receivers are active when the write receivers are being operated in the high-power, low write latency mode;removing power from the write receivers when the read transmitters are active when the write receivers are being operated in the high-power, low write latency mode;applying power to the write receivers when the write receivers are active and the read receivers are not active when the write receivers are being operated in the low-power, high write latency mode;and removing power to the write receivers when either the write receivers are not active or the read transmitters are active when the write receivers are being operated in the low-power, high write latency mode.

    In a memory device having a plurality of write receivers for receiving respective data bits from a data bus and a plurality of read transmitters for applying respective data bits to a data bus, a method of operating the write receivers, comprising:determining the write latency of the memory device independently of the read latency of the memory device;and applying power to the write receivers as a function of the determined write latency.
