A process for sealing of a joint

Abstract

Means for installation of panels, the panels comprising a core, a decorative upper surface and edges provided with joining means for positioning the panels towards one another. Predetermined portions of the edges are provided with an encapsulated agent which is made present on the edges of the surface elements before assembly and which encapsulation is ruptured by means of assembly making the agent available to the core. The surface elements are hereby joined to one another by use of the joining means wherein a unit of a plurality of surface elements is formed.

15 claims: 2 independent, 13 dependent

  1. 1
Panels (1) comprising a core, a decorative upper surface and edges (2 I , 2 II ) provided with joining means for positioning the panels (1) towards one another, wherein predetermined portions of the edges (2 I , 2 II ) are provided with an encapsulated agent applied to the edges (2 I , 2 II ) of the panels (1) before assembly of the panels (1), which encapsulation is adapted to be ruptured by means of the assembly making the agent available to the core, whereby the panels (1) are joined to one another by use of the joining means wherein a unit of a plurality of panels (1) is formed, characterized in that the encapsulated agent is present in the form of at least one tube (7) sectioned into a series of confined bodies (7 I ) of encapsulated agent, that a dry glue pre-applied in the form of an emulsion is provided on the edges (2 I , 2 II ), and that the encapsulated agent is a solvent for activating the dry glue upon assembly.
  2. 4
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the tube (7) is welded from a thermoplastic laminate strip where the long sides of the strip are overlapping so that an inside of the strip is welded towards an outside of the opposite long side of the strip thereby forming the tube, the material of the laminate being selected so that the inside is constituted of a first material and the outside is constituted by a second material wherein the first material has a good bond when welded together with the first material and wherein a second material has a bond to the first material which is weaker than the bond between two layers of the first material.
  3. 5
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the sectioning is performed by locally welding the inside of the tube (7) together at predetermined positions thereby forming the confined bodies (7 I ) of agent.
  4. 6
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the glue is a polyvinyl acetate (PVAC) glue.
  5. 7
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the joining means are arranged so that a first edge (2 I ) of the panel is provided with a tongue (29) while a second edge (2 II ) arranged parallelly to the first edge (2 I ) and opposite thereto, is provided with a groove (30) .
  6. 8
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the encapsulated agent is applied in a recess (27) in the groove (30) or in a recess on the tongue (29) .
  7. 11
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the joining means comprises snapping wedges (26) and recesses (27) arranged to position and mechanically lock the panels (1) tightly together while the glue sets.
  8. 12
Panels (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 11, characterized in that the glue further comprises an expanding agent causing the glue to swell when activated.
  9. 15
Method of installing panels (1), the panels comprising a core, a decorative upper surface and edges (2 I , 2 II ) provided with joining means for positioning the panels (1) towards one another, wherein predetermined portions of the edges (2 I , 2 II ) are provided with an encapsulated agent which is applied to the edges (2 I , 2 II ) of the panels (1) before assembly of the panels (1), which encapsulation is ruptured by means of the assembly making the agent available to the core whereby the panels (1) are joined to one another by use of the joining means wherein a unit of a plurality of panels (1) is formed, characterized in that the encapsulated agent is present in the form of at least one tube (7) sectioned into a series of confined bodies (7 I ) of encapsulated agent, whereby a glue in the form of an emulsion is applied on the edges (2 I , 2 II ) and is then allowed to dry before joining of ,the panels (1) and that the encapsulated agent is a solvent for activating the dry glue upon assembly.
