    A method of making a pant (10) having a front region (22), a back region (24), a crotch region (26), and side seams (54) connecting the front region (22) to the back region (24), the method comprising:providing a flat web (100);characterized in that the pant further comprises hanging legs (23);and the method further comprises: removing at least one portion of the flat web to define two leg openings (104);contracting the flat web (100) in at least one selected area to define at least one contracted area (120), a first region and a second region;and attaching the first region and the second region together to form the side seams, wherein said contracted area becomes the crotch region of said pant, and said first and second regions become the front and back regions of the pant.

    The method of Claim 1, further including applying a strip (106) in the at least one selected area.

    The method of Claim 2, wherein contracting the flat web (100) in the at least one selected area (120) comprises contracting the strip.

    The method of Claim 2 or 3, wherein the strip (106) comprises a delayed retraction material.

    The method of Claim 1, wherein contracting the flat web (100) in the at least one selected area (120) comprises corrugating the flat web.

    The method of Claim 5, wherein corrugations are bonded together.

    The method of any preceding claim, further comprising attaching at least one waist elastic (58) to the flat web.

    The method of any preceding claim, further comprising folding the flat web.

    The method of any preceding claim, wherein the pant is made using a machine direction assembly.

    The method of any of Claims 1 to 8, wherein the pant is made using a cross-machine direction assembly.

    The method of any preceding claim, further comprising cutting the flat web (100) into separate pieces.

    The method of Claim 11, wherein the contracting occurs before the cutting.

    The method of Claim 11, wherein the contracting occurs after the cutting.

    The method of Claim 1, wherein the flat web (100) comprises an integral elastic zone.

    The method of any preceding claim, further comprising attaching an absorbent structure (60) to the flat web.

    A pant (10) made from a single flat web (100), the pant comprising:a garment shell (64), the garment shell including a front region (22), a back region (24), a crotch region (26) and side seams (54) connecting the front region to the back region;characterized in that the crotch region is a contracted crotch region and the pant further comprises hanging legs (23), wherein at least a portion of each of the front region (22), the back region (24), the contracted crotch region (26) and the hanging legs (23) comprise portions of the single flat web (100).

    The pant of Claim 16, further comprising a waist elastic (58) extending along at least a portion of at least one of a front waist edge of the front region and a back waist edge of the back region.

    The pant of Claim 16, further comprising an absorbent structure (60) attached to the garment shell in at least one of the front region, the back region and the crotch region.

    The pant of Claim 16 wherein the absorbent structure (60) is attached to the garment shell by one of ultrasonic bonding and adhesive bonding.

    The pant of Claim 18, wherein the absorbent structure (60) comprises a stretchable material.

    The pant of Claim 16, wherein a ratio of a take up to twice an inseam length is in a range from about 1:1 to about 1.5:1.
