14 claims: 3 independent, 11 dependent

  1. 1
A fluid pressure reduction device comprising:at least two stacked discs (30), each of said discs having fluid passageways for communicating fluid from an inlet (16) to an outlet (18), a hollow disk center (32), a disk perimeter (34) and at least one plenum (40) extending through the disc;a high recovery first stage in said fluid passageways, said high recovery first stage being provided by fluid inlet stage slots (36) partially extending from the disk center towards the disk perimeter and having tapered side passages (52) to diverge radially outwardly from the disk center towards the disk perimeter;a low recovery second stage in said fluid passageways, said low recovery second stage being provided by fluid outlet stage slots (38) partially extending from the disk perimeter towards the disk center and having tapered side passages (58) to converge radially outwardly towards the disk perimeter;the at least one plenum (40) providing fluid communication between the high recovery first stage and the low recovery second stage;the low recovery second stage being in series with said high recovery first stage to obtain the desired fluid pressure reduction with low noise generation.
  2. 9
A fluid pressure reduction device according to any of claims 4 to 8, wherein said plenum, said multiple high recovery first stages, and said multiple low recovery second stages are selectively positioned to minimize any uninterrupted axial fluid flow through said stack.
  3. 13
A fluid control valve comprising:a valve body including a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a connecting valve body passageway;a valve seat mounted in said valve body passageway;an operating valve member adapted to cooperate with said valve seat to control the flow of fluid through said valve body passageway;a valve cage mounted above said valve seat and in said valve body passageway for reducing the fluid pressure, said valve cage including, the fluid pressure reduction device of claims 1-12.
