  1. 1
A network security module (304), interposed between a computing device (302) and a network (110) such that all network activities between the computing device and the network pass through the network security module, for protecting the computing device from an identified security threat on the network, the network security module comprising:a computing device connection (1014) connecting the network security module to the computing device;and a network connection (1012) connecting the network security module to the network;characterized in that the network security module further comprises a memory (1002) for storing configuration information corresponding to a current configuration of the computing device;an update request module (1010) for obtaining security information from a security server corresponding to the current configuration of the computing device and the identified security threat;and a security enforcement module (1008) that controls network activities between the computing device and the network by implementing security measures according to the obtained security information.
  2. 8
The network security module (304) of any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the computing device (302) is a network device.
  3. 9
A method for protecting a computing device from an identified security threat delivered over a network, implemented on a network security module interposed between the computing device and the network such that all network activities between the computing device and the network pass through the network security module, the method comprising:storing configuration information corresponding to a current configuration of the computing device;obtaining, from a security system, security information corresponding to the current configuration of the computing device and the identified security threat;implementing security measures according to the obtained security information.
