17 claims: 11 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A paper-like RFID tag comprising an RFID thread which has:- a base member (3);- an RFID chip (1) which is connected by bonding through bumps to an antenna (2);- wherein the RFID thread is inlaid between a first paper layer and a second paper layer (5a, 5b) to afford the paper-like RFID tag, characterized in that - the antenna (2) is formed by a metallic foil and bonded onto said base member (3);and that - a protecting material (4) is fore seen which is affixed onto the antenna, which material has a thickness such that the height of an upper surface (4a) thereof is larger than that of said RFID chip (1) and which has a window (41) within which said RFID chip (1) is received,
  2. 4
Paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said protecting material (4) is formed of a material higher in rigidity than said first and second paper layers (5a, 5b).
  3. 5
Paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said RFID thread is a tape-like thread wherein the width of said antenna (2) and that of said base film are 3 mm or less.
  4. 6
Paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said base member is a film or a tape.
  5. 7
A method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag, comprising:an RFID thread assembly process of forming an RFID thread, said RFID thread assembly process includes: - a metal foil laminated film fabricating process of bonding a metal foil to one surface of a base member (3) to form a metal foil laminated film;- an antenna pattern forming process of patterning said metal foil in said metal foil laminated film fabricated in said metal foil laminated film fabricating process to form an antenna (2);- a protecting material bonding process of bonding a protecting material around an RFID chip on said antenna (2), said protecting material (4) having a thickness such that the height of an upper surface (4a) thereof becomes larger than that of said RFID chip (1) when the RFID chip (1) is bonded by bonding bumps to said antenna (2) and said protecting material (4) further having a window (41) within which said RFID chip (1) is received;and - an RFID chip (1) bonding process of bonding the bumps of said RFID chip (1) to said antenna (2);wherein the method of manufacturing the paper-like RFID tag comprises: - a paper making process of inlaying said RFID thread formed in said RFID thread assembly process in between a first paper layer (5a) and a second paper layer (5b) and conducting heating, pressurizing and dewatering with use of rolls and drying.
  6. 11
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of claims 7-10, wherein said protecting material (4) used in said protecting material bonding process is a protecting tape formed with a window (41) for receiving said RFID chip (1) therein and higher in rigidity than said first and second paper layers (5a, 5b).
  7. 12
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of claims 7-11, characterized in that said protecting material (4) is a plastic or metallic material.
  8. 13
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of claims 7-12, characterized in that said protecting material (4) has a C-shaped or doughnut-shaped surface.
  9. 14
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag according to at least one of claims 7-13, characterized in that said paper making process is carried out using a multi-cylinder paper machine.
  10. 15
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag accordig to at least one of claims 7-14, characterized in that said protecting material (4) comprises a protecting tape (4).
  11. 17
Method of manufacturing a paper-like RFID tag accordig to at least one of claims 7-14, characterized in that the thickness of the paper-like RFID tag is about 0.1 mm.
