  1. 1
A ultra wideband UWB wireless network comprising:a plurality of UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) communicating over a plurality of UWB frequency bins extending over a UWB frequency range;whereby at least one of said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) is adapted for determining a respective actual signal level associated with each UWB frequency bin, and characterized in that at least one of said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) is adapted for • generating a do-not-use UWB frequency bin list by comparing each actual signal level with at least one interference threshold, and • communicating said do-not-use UWB frequency bin list to one or more other UWB devices (31a - 31n) such that said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) can avoid using UWB frequency bins experiencing excessive interference;and wherein the at least one interference threshold comprises a first interference threshold for when no transmissions are occurring over a given frequency bin, and a second interference threshold higher than the first interference threshold for when transmissions are occurring over a given frequency bin.
  2. 2
The UWB wireless network of Claim 1 wherein said at least one UWB wireless device comprises a fast Fourier transform FFT module (35) for determining the actual signal levels.
  3. 3
The UWB wireless network of Claim 1 wherein said at least one UWB wireless device comprises a discrete Fourier transform DFT module for determining the actual signal levels.
  4. 4
The UWB wireless network of Claim 1 wherein the at least one interference threshold comprises at least one expected average signal level.
  5. 5
A ultra wideband UWB wireless communications method comprising:using a plurality of UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) to communicate (101) over a plurality of UWB frequency bins extending over a UWB frequency range;by at least one of said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) determining a respective actual signal level associated with each UWB frequency bin (102);by at least one of said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) generating a do-not-use UWB frequency bin list by comparing each actual signal level with at least one interference threshold (103);and by at least one of said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) communicating said do-not-use UWB frequency bin list to one or more said UWB devices (31a - 31n) such that said UWB wireless devices (31a - 31n) can avoid using UWB frequency bins experiencing excessive interference;wherein the at least one interference threshold comprises a first interference threshold for when no transmissions are occurring over a given frequency bin, and a second interference threshold higher than the first interference threshold for when transmissions are occurring over a given frequency bin.
  6. 6
The method of Claim 5 wherein determining the respective actual signal levels comprises determining the actual signal levels using a fast Fourier transform FFT.
  7. 7
The method of Claim 5 wherein determining the respective actual signal levels comprises determining the actual signal levels using a discrete Fourier transform DFT.
  8. 8
The method of Claim 5 wherein the at least one interference threshold comprises at least one expected average signal level.
