    A packaging system (10) for hydrating a selected portion of a catheter or catheter-like device (19) the packaging system (10) comprising:an enclosure (12) for enclosing the device (19);a container (16) containing a hydrate, the container (16) located within the packaging system (10) and operable to selectively release the hydrate;characterized in that said packaging system further comprises a receptacle (18) disposed within the enclosure (12), the receptacle (18) having a first cavity comprising a groove (30) to accommodate the selected portion of the device and a second cavity to accommodate the container (16);wherein the first cavity of the receptacle (18) is located relative to the container (16) containing the hydrate such that upon operation of the container, the hydrate travels by gravity to the said first cavity, the first cavity having seals for the retention of fluid around the said selected portion of the device.

    A packaging method for hydrating a selected portion of a catheter or catheter-like device, the packaging method comprising:enclosing a device (19) in an enclosure (12);containing a hydrate in a container (16) operable to selectively release the hydrate;characterized in that said method comprises the steps of arranging a receptacle (18) having a first cavity comprising a groove within the enclosure (12);accommodating a selected portion of the device requiring hydration in the first cavity of the receptacle (18) and the container in a second cavity in the receptacle (18);wherein arranging the receptacle (18) further comprises arranging the receptacle (18) with the first cavity of the receptacle (18) located relative to the container (16) containing the hydrate, such that upon operation of the container, the hydrate travels by gravity to the said first cavity, the first cavity having seals for the retention of fluid around the said selected portion of the device.
