24 claims: 3 independent, 21 dependent

  1. 1
A dynamic memory comprising:a. a first memory bank (1020, B0);b. a second memory bank (1020, B1);c. a request interface (1015) receiving a refresh activate command (REFA) specifying a refresh bank address and a data-access activate command (ACT) specifying a data-access bank address;d. a refresh activate register (REF-ACT) storing the refresh bank address identifying the first memory bank (1020, B0) for a refresh activate command (REFA) and performing a refresh activate operation directed to the first memory bank (1020, B0);and e. a data-access activate register (DA-ACT) storing the data-access bank address identifying the second memory bank (1020, B1) for a data-access activate command (ACT) and performing a data-access activate operation directed to the second memory bank (1020, B1), wherein the refresh activate register (REF-ACT) and the data-access activate register (DA-ACT) simultaneously perform a refresh activate operation and a data-access activate operation, wherein the first and second memory banks (1020, B0, B1) include respective first and second pluralities of rows, the dynamic memory further comprising a refresh-row address register (REF-ROW) selecting a first of the plurality of rows in the first memory bank (1020, B0) according to the refresh bank address specified by the refresh activate command (REFA).
  2. 3
The dynamic memory of any one of the preceding claims further comprising a request decoder (1025), the request decoder (1025) having:i. a decoder input port connected to the request interface (1015);ii. a first decoder output port connected to the refresh activate register (REF-ACT);and iii. a second decoder output port connected to the data-access activate register (DA-ACT);iv. wherein the request decoder (1025) decodes the data-access activate command (ACT) and the refresh activate command (REFA)
  3. 14
A memory controller (1065) comprising:a. a transaction queue (1040) that provides a plurality of data-access transactions on a data-access-transaction interconnect;b. a refresh-transaction generator (1045) that provides a series of refresh transactions on a refresh-transaction interconnect;c. a request generating circuit (1055) connected to the data-transaction interconnect and the refresh-transaction interconnect, wherein the request generating circuit (1055) decomposes the data-access transactions into one or more data-access requests and decomposes the refresh transactions into one or more refresh requests, wherein transaction specifies a sequence of one or more operations that access a memory device;and d. a bank-conflict avoidance circuit (1050) connected to the transaction queue (1040) and the refresh transaction generator, wherein the data-access request and the refresh request comprise row address information of the memory to be accessed, wherein the request generating circuit (1055) combines ones of the data-access requests with ones of the refresh requests to produce combined requests facilitating simultaneous refresh and data-access operations.
