  1. 1
An apparatus comprising:a rotation-angle detection means (14) adapted to detect a rotation angle of a rotating body (13) based on an output signal generated by a resolver (14);an exciting-signal generation means (53) adapted to supply an exciting signal for exciting the resolver to generate the output signal: and an abnormality detection means (3) adapted to detect an abnormality of an exciting-signal output terminal (535) for outputting the exciting signal or an abnormality of an exciting-signal line (536) for transmitting the exciting signal, characterized by a power-supply stop means (3) adapted to stop the power supply to the exciting-signal generation means when the abnormality detection means detects an abnormality of the exciting-signal output terminal or detects an abnormality of the exciting-signal line, wherein the abnormality detection means (3) is adapted to detect a failure caused by a short circuit between a power-supply line and the exciting-signal output terminal or the exciting-signal line or a failure caused by a short circuit between a ground line and the exciting-signal output terminal or the exciting-signal line as an abnormality.
  2. 6
An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 5 further comprising:a transfer-ratio-varying steering apparatus (1), which includes an input shaft connected (11) to a steering wheel (10), an output shaft (13) connected to vehicle wheels (17), a transfer-ratio-varying mechanism unit (12) for varying a rotation angle of the output shaft for a given rotation angle of the input shaft, and a link mechanism (2) for making the input and output shafts rotatable as a single body, wherein the link mechanism (2) links the input and output shafts to each other when the power-supply stop means stops a power supply to the exciting-signal generation means.
  3. 8
An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 5, further comprising:an electric power steering control apparatus (10) provided for a vehicle for generating a steering assist torque to be given to a steering mechanism (100) by supplying a current to an electric motor (115) based on a steering operation by a driver.
  4. 9
An apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 5, further comprising:a vehicle steering control apparatus (100), which includes a transfer-ratio-varying steering apparatus (1) integrated with an electric power steering control apparatus (101) provided in a vehicle, wherein the transfer-ratio-varying steering apparatus (1) includes an input shaft (112a) connected to a steering wheel (110), an output shaft (112b) connected to vehicle wheels (124), a transfer-ratio-varying mechanism unit for varying the rotation angle of the output shaft for a given rotation angle of the input shaft, and a link mechanism for making the input and output shafts rotatable as a single body, wherein the electric power steering control apparatus (101) generates a steering assist torque to be given to a steering mechanism by supplying a current to an electric motor (115) based on a steering operation by a driver, and wherein the transfer-ratio-varying steering apparatus and the electric power steering control apparatus share the exciting-current generation means.
  5. 10
A method for detecting a rotation of a rotation body (10) to which a resolver (14) is coupled, the method comprising:generating an exciting signal for the resolver by an exciting-signal generation means (53) of a control unit (3), which operates with a power supply;supplying the exciting signal to the resolver through an exciting-signal output terminal (535) and an exciting-signal line (536) to cause the resolver to generate an output signal corresponding to a rotation of the rotation body (10);detecting a rotation angle of the rotating body (10) based on the output signal of the resolver;detecting an abnormality of the exciting-signal output terminal or an abnormality of the exciting-signal line, characterized by stopping a power supply to the exciting-signal generation means (53) when the abnormality of the exciting-signal output terminal or the exciting-signal line is detected, while maintaining the power supply to other parts in the control unit;and detecting a failure caused by a short circuit between a power-supply line and the exciting-signal output terminal or the exciting-signal line or a failure caused by a short circuit between a ground line and the exciting-signal output terminal or the exciting-signal line as an abnormality.
