8 claims: 4 independent, 4 dependent

  1. 1
A tire having an antenna assembly incorporated therein, the tire (12) comprising:a tire body having an inward facing wall;an elongate antenna (32);and an elongate carrier strip formed of non-conductive elastic material attached to the antenna (32) to maintain the antenna (32) in a given configuration, the carrier strip (36) attaching to the inward wall of the tire (12) and extending from an initial relaxed state to an extended state when subjected to stresses within the tire and substantially recovering from the extended state in the absence of said stresses, characterized in that the carrier strip (36) is composed substantially from an elastic fiber material, or wherein the carrier strip (36) comprises at least one textile fabric strip woven from an elastic fiber material.
  2. 4
The tire according to at least one of the previous claims, wherein the antenna is configured in a zigzag pattern extending in a pre-selected pitch across the textile fabric.
  3. 5
A method for mounting an annular antenna (32) and transponder (34) to a tire (12), comprising the steps of:providing an elongate antenna (32);attaching the antenna (32) to an elongate carrier strip (36) formed of elastic material that extends from an initial relaxed state to an extended state when subjected to stresses within the tire (12) and substantially recovers from the extended state in the absence of said stresses to maintain the antenna (32) in a given configuration;and attaching the carrier strip (36) to an inward wall of a tire (12), characterized in that the method further comprises the step of forming the carrier strip from at least one textile fabric strip (36) woven from an elastic fiber material.
  4. 8
The method according to at least one of claims 5-7, comprising the further step of at least partially weaving at least a portion of the antenna (32) into the one textile fabric strip.
