28 claims: 3 independent, 25 dependent

  1. 1
A hybrid photosensitive device comprising:(a) a photosensitive semiconductor (125);characterized in that (b) a plurality of chlorosomes (100-104, 110) is supported in light communicating relation to a light receiving surface (133) of the photosensitive semiconductor (125), so that light emitted by the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) is received by the photosensitive semiconductor (125), (c) the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) are adherent to a transparent plate (118) overlying a light receiving surface (133) of the photosensitive semiconductor (125), (d) the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) are adherent to a hydrophobic surface of the transparent plate (118), and (e) the plate is a borosilicate plate.
  2. 6
The hybrid photosensitive device according to either claim 1 or 2, wherein the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) are chlorosomes of C. aurantiacus.
  3. 12
A method of making a hybrid photosensitive device including:(a) providing photosynthetic chlorosome-containing bacteria, (b) extracting the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) from the bacteria, (c) providing a photosensitive semiconductor (125), and (d) locating the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) proximate a light receiving surface (133) of the photosensitive semiconductor (125), (e) wherein step (d) comprises providing a transparent plate (118), securing the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) to the transparent plate (118) and positioning the transparent plate (118) overlying a light receiving surface (133) of the photosensitive semiconductor (125), (f) wherein providing the transparent plate (118) further comprises providing a transparent plate (118) having a hydrophobic surface and securing the chlorosomes (100-104, 110) further includes securing the chlorosomes to the hydrophobic surface, (g) wherein providing the transparent plate (118) comprises providing a borosilicate plate (118).
