Roll-in cot

Abstract

A roll-in cot having a patient support attached to a wheeled transporter wherein the wheeled transporter comprises leading and trailing collapsible legs having respective proximal ends pivotally connected to a frame and distal ends including wheels wherein at least the leading or the trailing collapsible legs are operable from a locked condition by a release assembly wherein the release assembly comprises a safety and a leg release wherein one of said safety and said leg release comprises a linkage, wherein in an activated condition the linkage prevents the collapse of the collapsible legs, said linkage is connected to a touch bar disposed in front of said collapsible legs whereby engagement of the touch bar against a platform deactivates the linkage and enables the collapsible legs to be collapsed on release of the other of said safety and said leg release.

7 claims: 3 independent, 4 dependent

  1. 1
A roll-in cot (1; 30; 60) having a patient support attached to a wheeled transporter, the wheeled transporter comprising leading and trailing collapsible legs (3,4; 33,34) having respective proximal ends pivotally connected to a frame (2; 62) and distal ends including wheels, wherein the leading collapsible legs (3; 33) are operable from a locked condition by a release assembly (7), the release assembly (7) comprising:a leg release (9;39;69);and a safety (12;75), wherein one of said safety (12;75) and said leg release (9, 39;69) comprises a linkage which in an activated condition prevents the collapse of the leading collapsible legs (3;33), said linkage being connected to a touch bar (11;73) disposed in front of said leading collapsible legs (3;33) whereby engagement of the touch bar (11;73) deactivates the linkage, characterised in that deactivating either the leg release (9;39;69) or the safety (12;75) without the other will not cause the leading collapsible legs (3;33) to collapse.
  2. 2
A roll-in cot (1; 30; 60) as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the trailing collapsible legs (4; 34) are also operable from a locked condition by a release assembly (7), the release assembly (7) comprising:a leg release (9;39;69);and a safety (12;75), wherein one of said safety and said leg release (9;39;69) comprises a linkage and in an activated condition the linkage prevents the collapse of the trailing collapsible legs (4;34), said linkage being connected to a touch bar (11;73) disposed in front of said trailing collapsible legs (4;34) whereby engagement of the touch bar (11;73) deactivates the linkage, characterised in that deactivating either the leg release (9;39;69) or the safety (12;75) without the other will not cause the trailing collapsible legs (4;34) to collapse.
  3. 3
A roll-in cot (1;30;60) as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the leg release (9;39;69) and the safety (12;75) are arranged to independently retain the leading and/or the trailing legs (3, 4;33, 34) in an erect condition and thus deactivation of either the leg release (9;39;69) or the safety (12;75) is insufficient to collapse the leading or the trailing legs (3, 4;33, 34).
  4. 4
A roll-in cot (1;30;60) as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3, wherein the release assembly of the leading legs and the release assembly of the trailing legs comprise integrated mechanisms.
  5. 5
A roll-in cot (1;30;60) as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the linkage is in the form of a pawl and stop.
  6. 6
A roll-in cot (1;30;60) as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the linkage is in the form of a latching assembly.
  7. 7
A roll-in cot (1, 30;60) as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the leg release (9;39;69) or the safety (12;75) is operable by a proximity switch which senses whether the cot is positioned adjacent a platform.
