  1. 1
A method of processing data based on programmed instructions, the method comprising:generating a plurality of addresses by a plurality of address generators (152);referencing a number of locations in memory using the plurality of addresses and a plurality of buffer mappings corresponding to respective buffers included in a subset of a plurality of buffers, wherein each buffer of the plurality of buffers includes a read data port, a write data port, a read address port, and a write address port;communicating data from the referenced locations in memory to a first processing unit;receiving, by the first processing unit, first data concurrently from each buffer included in the subset of the plurality of buffers, wherein the first data includes a sample of a communication signal;outputting, by the first processing unit, second data to another buffer in the plurality of buffers;in response to executing an instruction, modifying a mapping associated with a particular buffer of the plurality of buffers indicating a change in status from an output destination to an input source;and wherein generating the plurality of addresses includes incrementing a particular address of the plurality of addresses, and resetting the particular address of the plurality of addresses based on a comparison of the particular address and a specified address value.
  2. 3
The method of either of claims 1 or 2, further comprising:performing, by the first processing unit, vector processing operations, wherein the vector processing operations comprise a single instruction that drives calculation of a vector.
  3. 4
The method of any of claims 1-3, wherein generating the plurality addresses includes initializing a particular address generator of the plurality of address generators with an initial value and a stride value.
  4. 5
The method of any of claims 1-4, further comprising:selectively directing the data from the separate buffers to a particular processing unit of a plurality of processing units;performing, by the one processing unit, one or more vector processing operations.
  5. 6
The method of any of claims 1-5, further comprising:demodulating a 802.11- compliant waveform;wherein demodulating the 802.11- compliant waveform includes processing, asynchronously, the 802.11-compliant waveform using a sample rate associated with the 802.11-compliant waveform and based on programmed instructions in memory.
  6. 7
An apparatus, operable to process communication signals, the apparatus comprising:a plurality of buffers, wherein each buffer of the plurality of buffers include a read data port, a write data port, a read address port, and a write address port, wherein the plurality of buffers include a first buffer and a second buffer configured to store first digital data representing a first portion of a received communication signal;a plurality of address generators configured to generate a plurality of addresses;and a processing unit configured to: retrieve, in parallel, the first digital data stored in the first and second buffers using a particular address of the plurality of addresses;perform a demodulation operation using the first digital data during a first iteration;store a result of the demodulation operation in a third buffer of the plurality of buffers using another address of the plurality of addresses;wherein the first buffer is further configured to store second digital data representation a second portion of the received communication signal in response to a determination that the first iteration has completed;wherein to generate the plurality of addresses, the plurality of address generators is further configured to: increment a particular address of the plurality of addresses;and reset the particular address of the plurality of addresses based on a comparison of the particular address and a specified address value.
  7. 11
The apparatus of any of claims 8-10, wherein the FFT operations comprise a butterfly operation.
  8. 12
The apparatus of any of claims 7-11, further comprising means for selectively directing the retrieved data to anyone of:(a) means for performing finite impulse response (FIR) operations (134);(b) means for performing Fast Fourier Transform operations (138);and (c) means for performing vector processing operations (136).
  9. 15
The apparatus of any of claims 7-14, wherein the retrieved data comprise signal samples that conform to 802.11a protocol specifications.
  10. 16
The apparatus of any of claims 7-15, wherein the retrieved data comprise signal samples that conform to 802.11g protocol specifications.
