  2. 3
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, wherein the axis (4-4) of the slots (112, 304, 306, 402, 404) is perpendicular to the first axis (L1, L3) and second longitudinal axis of the tube (106).
  3. 4
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, wherein the slots (112, 304, 306, 402, 404) define a fan beam or a cone beam.
  4. 5
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, wherein the slots (112;304, 306) each have a respective axis (4-4) perpendicular to the first axis (L1, L3) and second axis of the tube (106).
  5. 6
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, further comprising a respective shutter (312, 315) coupled to the housing adjacent to each slot (304, 306, 402, 404) to selectively open and close each slot.
  6. 7
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, wherein said source is located in a system (200; 300; 410, 420) for examining an object (204, 311, 313), the system further comprising:a conveyor system (202;308, 310;412;422) comprising means to move the object through the system along a conveyor system longitudinal axis (L2, L4, L5);wherein: the first longitudinal axis (L1, L3) of the X-ray source is parallel to the conveyor system longitudinal axis (L2, L4, L5);and the X-ray source and the slots are directed towards a region above the conveyor system and the object is moved by the conveyor system through a radiation beam generated by the X-ray source (100), during operation.
  7. 8
The X-ray source of any preceding claim, wherein the X-ray source (100, 302, 400, 403, 600) is on a first side of the conveyor system (202; 308, 310; 412; 422), the system further comprising:a detector (205;316, 318, 414, 424) on a second side of the conveyor system, to detect radiation transmitted through the object (204, 311, 313).
  8. 9
