Claims of equivalent WO 2004009350 A1 What Is Claimed Is:1. An interlayer composite comprising: a plastic sheet having a predetermined outer shape;a pair of bus bars, and an adhesive securing the bus bars on a major surface of the plastic sheet in a fixed relationship to one another.
  2. 7
A heatable laminate comprising:a first substrate having a major surface and a periphery;an electrically conductive member on a portion of the major surface of the first substrate;a pair of spaced bus bars each bus bar having a major surface defined as a first surface and an opposite surface defined as a second surface, the first surface of each bus bar in electrical contact with the electrically conductive member;a second substrate having a major surface, with the major surface of the second substrate over and facing the electrically conductive member and the second surface of the pair of bus bars;a plastic sheet having opposed major surfaces between the major surface of the second substrate and the second surface of the pair of bus bars, one of the major surfaces of the plastic sheet defined as the first surface adhered to a portion of the conductive member and the second surface of the pair of bus bars and the other major surface of the plastic sheet defined as the second surface of the sheet adhered to surface portions of the major surface of the second substrate;a pair of electrically conductive leads, one of the leads connected to one of the pair of bus bars and the other lead connected to the other one of the bus bars and each lead having an end extending beyond the periphery of the first substrate to provide external electrical access' to the bus bars;an electrically non-conductive sleeve over a portion of each of the leads, an end portion of the sleeve between the substrates and the other end portion extending beyond periphery of the first and second substrate and terminating short of end of the lead outside the substrates;a first air barrier between inner surface of the sleeve and the surface portion of the lead within the sleeve, and a second air barrier between selected outer surface portions of the sleeve and adjacent marginal edge portions of the first substrate.
  3. 28
A laminate comprising:a first substrate having a major surface and a periphery;an electrically conductive member responsive to electric stimuli over a potion of the major ' surface of the first substrate;a pair of spaced interconnecting activating members, each activating member having a major surface defined as a first surface and an opposite surface defined as a second surface, the first surface in electrical surface contact with the electrically conductive member;a second substrate having a major surface, with the major surface over and facing the electrically conductive member and the second surface of the pair of activating members;a plastic sheet between the first and second substrates and second surface of the pair of spaced activating members, the plastic sheet having opposed major surfaces with one of the major surfaces of the plastic sheet defined as the first surface and the opposite surface defined as the second surface wherein the first surface of- the plastic sheet is adhered to a portion of the conductive member and the second surface of the pair of activating members and the second surface of the plastic sheet adhered to surface portions of the major surface of the second substrate;a pair of electrical conductive leads, one of the leads connected to one of the pair of activating members and the other lead connected to the other one of the activating members and each lead having an end extending beyond the periphery of the first substrate to provide external electrical access to the activating members;a sleeve over a portion of each of the leads, an end portion of the sleeve between the substrates and the other end portion extending beyond the periphery of the first and second substrate and' terminating short of the end of the lead outside the ■ substrates;a first barrier between inner surface of the sleeve and the surface portion of the lead within the sleeve, and a second air barrier between outer surface - portions of the sleeve adjacent the first substrate between the first substrate and the portions of the first substrate.
  4. 31
A method of making a laminate having an internal member responsive to electrical stimuli comprising:providing a laminate subassembly by: providing a first and second substrate, each substrate having a first major surface and an opposite major surface defined as a second major surface;providing a member responsive to electrical stimuli on the second surface of the first substrate;providing a pair of spaced activating members in surface contact with the internal member;providing a pair of leads, one lead having an end contacting one of the activating members and at the opposite end extending beyond peripheral edge of the first substrate and the other lead having an end portion contacting the other activating member and extending beyond the peripheral edge of the first substrate;providing a sleeve over a portion of the lead extending beyond the peripheral edge of the first substrate and on the second surface of the first substrate;providing a first air barrier between inner surfaces of the sleeve and portions of the surfaces of the lead within the sleeve;providing a second air barrier between portions of the second surface of the first substrate and portions of the sleeve adjacent the second surface of the first substrate, and providing a heat softenable sheet over the bus bars, portions of the sleeves and the internal member;positioning the second' sheet over the heat softenable sheet to provide the laminate subassembly, and applying heat and pressure to the laminate subassembly to heat soften the sheet to adhere the sheet to the adjacent surfaces wherein the sheet, the layer of adhesive and the air barrier prevent air from moving from the atmosphere between the sheets.
