  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 2004012580 A2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A method of determining blood pressure, comprising: providing a sensor adapted for determining pressure, said sensor being disposed proximate a blood vessel;varying the level of compression applied to said blood vessel over time, said act of varying comprising modulating said level of compression according to a modulation scheme;and detenuining said blood pressure based on measurement of pressure obtained with said sensor during at least part of said act of varying.
  2. 5
The method of any of the preceding Claims, wherein said act of determining comprises:measuring the pressure during said act of modulating;and correlating variations in said level of compression with variations within said measured pressure.
  3. 7
The method of any of the preceding Claims, wherein said act of modulating comprises modulating according to a pseudo-white noise source.
  4. 9
The method of any of the preceding Claims, further comprising:detecting the occurrence of a transient event by analyzing changes in said pressure, said transient event altering the coupling between said blood vessel and sensor;initiating a sensor sweep via said controller and motive apparatus to identify a substantially optimal sensor position based on said altered coupling;and establishing the substantially optimal sensor position for at least one epoch.
  5. 10
Apparatus for determining the blood pressure of a living subject, comprising:a pressure sensor adapted for sensing the pressure at the skin surface of a living subject and generating a waveform relating thereto;and a processor adapted to run a computer program thereon, said computer program being adapted to modulate the position of said sensor over time, said modulation being used to correct at least portions of said waveform.
  6. 14
The apparatus of any of the preceding Claims, wherein said correcting at least portions of said waveform comprises:measuring the pressure during said act of modulating;and correlating variations in said sensor position with variations within said sensed pressure.
  7. 18
The apparatus of any of the preceding Claims, wherein said apparatus is further adapted to:detect the occurrence of a transient event by analyzing changes in said pressure, said transient event altering the coupling between a blood vessel underlying said skin surface and said sensor;perform a sensor sweep to identify a substantially optimal sensor position based on said altered coupling;and establish the substantially optimal sensor position for at least one epoch.
  8. 23
A method of identifying changes in the coupling between a tonometric sensor and the tissue of a subject, comprising:disposing said sensor in proximity to said tissue;measuring data from said tissue using said sensor;and identifying at least one change in a parameter associated with said coupling based at least in part on said measured data.
  9. 29
A method of operating a pressure determining apparatus under transient conditions, comprising:determining a first substantially optimal initial level of compression of a compressible vessel from which said pressure is measured;operating said apparatus at said first substantially optimal level of compression for at least one epoch;detecting the occurrence of a transient event;determining a second substantially optimal level of compression of said vessel;and operating said apparatus at said second substantially optimal level of compression for at least one epoch, said epochs occurring at different times.
  10. 34
A method of measuring blood pressure in a living subject, comprising:measuring pressure from a blood vessel at a first location on said subject;at least partly occluding a blood vessel at a second location on said subject, said act of occluding having at least some effect on said act of measuring;and adjusting said act of measuring based at least in part on said effect.
  11. 40
Apparatus adapted to generate a representation of the blood pressure the blood vessel of a living subject, said generating comprising:tonometrically sensing pressure at a first location using at least one sensor and generating signals relating thereto;passively detecting a degradation of said signals;classifying said degradation based at least in part on said signals;and compensating for the effects of said degradation on said representation.
