Interface for a gps system

Abstract

A protocol independent interface for processing, within a mobile device, protocol aiding data received at a call processor with a Global Positioning System (“GPS”) interface, where the protocol aiding data is produced according to a Geolocation Server Station protocol is disclosed. The protocol independent interface may include a means for receiving, at the GPS interface, the protocol aiding data received at the call processor, means for converting the received protocol aiding data to interface data that is transparent to the Geolocation Server Station protocol, and means for passing the interface data to a GPS module.

9 claims: 5 independent, 4 dependent

  1. 1
A protocol independent interface for processing, within a mobile device (506) having a GPS module (522) and a call processor (520), GPS aiding data received at the call processor (520), with a GPS interface, where the GPS aiding data is produced according to any one of multiple Geolocation Server Station (512) protocols, the protocols independent interface comprising:means for receiving, at the GPS interface, the GPS aiding data received at the call processor (520);means for converting the received GPS aiding data to interface data that is transparent to the multiple Geolocation Server Station (512) protocols by translating the received GPS aiding data from the Geolocation Server Station (512) protocol to an independent protocol used by the GPS module (522);and means for passing the interface data to the GPS module (522).
  2. 4
The interface of any of claims 1-3, wherein a Geolocation Server Station (512) produces the GPS aiding data.
  3. 7
A protocol independent interface according to any of claims 1-6, further comprising:a GPS module data structure.
  4. 8
A mobile device comprising :a call processor (520);and a GPS module (522) characterized by further comprising a protocol independent interface (524) according to any of claims 1-7.
  5. 9
A method for processing, within a mobile device (506) having a GPS module (522) and a call processor (520), GPS aiding data received at the call processor (520) with a GPS interface, where the GPS aiding data is produced according to one of a plurality of Geolocation Server Station (512) protocols, the method comprising:receiving, at the GPS interface, the GPS aiding data received at the call processor (520);converting the received GPS aiding data to interface data that is transparent to the plurality of different Geolocation Server Station (512) protocols;by translating the received GPS aiding data from the Geolocation Server Station (512) protocol to an independent protocol used by the GPS module (512) and passing the interface data to the GPS module (522).
