  1. 1
A method for forming a substrate contact on an electrical element (5, 10), wherein the electrical element (5, 10) comprises an elongated conductor (8), said elongated conductor (8) providing an electrical current flow path between said electrical element (5, 10) and a circuit substrate, characterized in that , the method comprises the steps of:a) forming a well (11) in a mounting surface of the electrical element (5, 10), wherein said well (11) has a first dimension in the lateral X-Y directions longer than a second dimension in the Z-direction perpendicular to X-Y directions;b) inserting a tail end of the elongated conductor (8) into a portion of said electrical element (5, 10) such that the tail end of the elongated conductor (8) occupies a portion of said well (11) and terminates within a predefined range of the mounting surface;c) filling said well (11) with a predefined amount of solder paste (19);d) placing a preformed conductive body (12) within said paste (19);e) melting said solder paste (19) in order to fuse the preformed conductive body (12) to said tail end, said preformed conductive body (12) having a dimension in the direction of the first dimension of the well (11) less than said first dimension of the well and a dimension in the direction of the second dimension of the well greater than said second dimension of the well.
  2. 2
A method of forming a fusible material to a tail end of an elongated conductor (8) in an electrical element (5, 10) for use with a substrate mounting, wherein the electrical element (5, 10) comprises a substrate mounting surface for providing an electrical current flow path between the electrical element (5, 10) and the circuit substrate, characterized in that the method comprises the steps of:a) forming a well (11) within said mounting surface;b) inserting the tail end of the elongated conductor (8) within a predefined range of the mounting surface such that the tail end is exposed within said well (11);c) filling said well (11) with a predetermined amount of the fusable material in the form of a solder paste;d) heating said solder paste to at least the solder paste melting point such that the solder within said paste, without the use of a preformed conductive body (12), coalesces into a ball and said ball fuses to said tail end.
