Method and system for detecting ocular dysfunctions

Abstract

A method, system and device for recording image data for a pair of eyes exposes to a series of flashes that includes flashes that vary chromatically is provided. More particularly, one eye is exposed to the series of flashes, and the resulting pupillary reflexes of both eyes are concurrently recorded.

  1. 1
Method for obtaining data that can be used to detect an ocular dysfunction in a patient, the method comprising the steps of:exposing a first eye (52A-B) of the patient to a light stimulus generated by a first light source (26A-B), wherein the light stimulus is passed to the first eye (52A-B) and wherein the light stimulus is tense enough to generate pupillary reflexes;characterized in that : - the light stimulus consists of a first series of flashes that comprises at least four flashes, wherein each flash varies chromatically from the other flashes in the first series, and - the method further comprises the step of concurrently measuring pupillary reflexes of both the first eye (52A-B) and a second eye (52B-A) of the patient during the exposing step, while one eye (52A-B) is exposed to the series of flashes.
  2. 10
Method according to 9, further comprising:detecting a pupillary reflex for each flash;determining if the detected pupillary reflex meets required criteria;and rescheduling a flash at the end of the series of flashes if the corresponding pupillary reflex does not meet the required criteria.
  3. 11
System for detecting an ocular dysfunction, comprising:a first eye scope (12A-B) for exposing a first eye (52A-B) to a series of flashes, wherein the flashes are intense enough to generate pupillary reflexes, and detecting a pupillary reflex of the first eye (52A-B) for each flash, the first eye scope (12A-B) having an ocular aperture (23A-B), a light aperture (25A-B), and a monitoring aperture (20A-B);a second eye scope (12B-A) for detecting a pupillary reflex of a second eye (52B-A) for each flash, the second eye scope (12B-A) having an ocular aperture (23B-A) and a monitoring aperture (20B-A);and characterized in that it further comprises a measurement system for concurrently measuring the pupillary reflexes of both the first eye (52A-B) and the second eye (52B-A) based on light passing through the monitoring apertures (20A-B);a first light source (26A-B) for generating the series of flashes through the light aperture (25A-B) for exposing one eye (52A-B) to the series of flashes is provided, wherein each flash in the series of flashes varies chromatically from the other flashes, and the first light source (26A-B) is capable of generating at least four different hues.
