5 claims: 3 independent, 2 dependent

  1. 1
IV infusion delivery apparatus (43) for operation in an MRI environment, comprising:non-magnetic peristaltic pumping means (60) to receive a liquid conduit (49) and to transfer liquid through the liquid conduit (49) from a liquid IV container (45);non-magnetic ultrasonic actuator means (64) to operate the pumping means (60) in response to multiphasic signals at ultrasonic frequencies to provide positive displacement of liquid from the IV container (45);sensor means (83) to produce an output signal indicative of pump speed;controller means (71) including processor means (73) and memory means (75, 77) disposed within a conductive structure (91) to operate in an MRI environment, the controller means (71) applying the multiphasic signals to selectively energize the ultrasonic actuator means (64) to drive the non-magnetic peristaltic pumping means (60) and thereby transfer liquid from the IV container (45) through the liquid conduit (49) at a controllable volumetric rate.
  2. 3
IV infusion delivery apparatus according to claims 1 or 2, wherein:the pumping means (60) comprises a plurality of pump elements (67);and the sensor means (83) is disposed to produce a first output signal indicative of motion of pump elements.
  3. 4
IV infusion delivery apparatus according to claims 1 or 2, further comprising a detector (85) responsive to liquid flow for sensing liquid flow from the IV container (45) through the liquid conduit (49), wherein the controller means (71) communicates with the sensor means (83) and detector (85) for receiving signals therefrom, and with the ultrasonic actuator means (64) for selectively energizing the actuator (64) to transfer liquid through the pumping structure at a controllable volumetric rate.
