Claims of equivalent WO 2005014978 A1 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A turbine blade (18) for a gas turbine engine including an airfoil (24) and integral dovetail (22) for mounting said airfoil (24) along a radial axis (17) to a rotor disk (16) inboard of a turbine shroud (20), said airfoil (24) comprising: (a) first and second sidewalls (28,30) joined together at a leading edge (32) and a trailing edge (34), said first and second sidewalls (28,30) extending from a root (36) disposed adjacent said dovetail (22) to a tip plate (48) for channeling combustion gases (12) thereover;and (b) at least one tip rib (50/52) extending outwardly from said tip plate (48) between said leading and trailing edges (32,34);wherein, said tip rib (50/52) is oriented so that an axis (58/82) extending longitudinally therethrough has a varying angle (6/φ) with respect to said radial axis (17) for at least a designated portion (60) of an axial length of said turbine blade (18).

A turbine blade (18) for a gas turbine engine including an airfoil (24) and integral dovetail (22) for mounting said airfoil (24) along a radial axis (17) to a rotor disk (16) inboard of a turbine shroud (20), said airfoil (24) comprising:(a) first and second sidewalls (28,30) joined together at a leading edge (32) and a trailing edge (34), said first and second sidewalls (28,30) extending from a root (36) disposed adjacent said dovetail (22) to a tip plate (48) for channeling combustion gases (12) thereover;and (b) at least one tip rib (50/52) extending outwardly from said tip plate (48) between said leading and trailing edges (32,34);wherein said tip rib (50/52) is oriented with respect to said radial axis (17) so that a first recirculation zone (64/84) of said combustion gases (12) is formed adjacent a distal end (66/86) of said tip rib (50/52) which reduces a leakage flow of said combustion gases (12) between said airfoil (24) and said shroud (20) for at least a designated portion (60) of an axial length of said turbine blade (18).
