  1. 1
An apparatus for an Ad-Hoc domain (315) arranged to provide wireless communication for nodes (330, 335, 340) within a service area (350 - 354) of the Ad-Hoc domain, characterized by comprising:means for electing a trunk node (330) from the nodes within the service area of the ad-hoc domain, wherein the trunk node is elected to act as a gateway between the nodes within the Ad-Hoc domain (315) and a backbone access network (320, 325) of an access domain (310) based on at least one of location coordinates, movement characteristics of the nodes, a number of hops, a handover capability, a service profile, service availability, a Quality of Service, a power parameter, routing metrics, an accounting and billing policy, an identifier, authentication capability of the node, and robustness of the radio link.
  2. 17
A method for providing wireless communication for nodes (330, 335, 340) within a service area (350 - 354) of an Ad-Hoc domain (315), wherein a trunk node handles connection to/from the Ad-Hoc domain, characterized by comprising:electing a trunk node (330) from among the nodes within the service area of the Ad-Hoc domain (315) to act as a gateway between the nodes within the Ad-Hoc domain and an access entity (320, 325) associated with a backbone domain (305) based on at least one of location coordinates, movement characteristics of the nodes, a number of hops, a handover capability, a service profile, service availability, a Quality of Service, a power parameter, routing metrics, an accounting and billing policy, an identifier, authentication capability of the node, and robustness of the radio link.
  3. 33
A system for a hybrid architecture in a communications system (400) comprising an apparatus according to any of claims 1 to 16.
  4. 34
The system of Claim 33, wherein the Ad-Hoc domain (430) is automatically arranged to provision multi-hop wireless communication for the nodes within the service area of the Ad-Hoc domain.
  5. 35
The system of Claim 33, wherein the Ad-Hoc domain is automatically arranged to provision multi-channel wireless communication for the nodes within the service area of the Ad-Hoc domain.
  6. 36
A computer program comprising program code means adapted to perform the steps of any of claims 17 to 32 when the program is run on a data processing apparatus.
