  1. 1
A communication terminal device including a handset (225, 325) for inputting and outputting voice signals and processing signals according to a physical characteristics specification of a designated telecommunication network corresponding to one or more countries, the device comprising:a controller (230, 330);a telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) configured to convert analog communication signals transmitted and received between a telecommunication network and the communication terminal device into digital communication signals;an interface unit (290, 390) configured to isolate the controller (230, 330) from the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380), and transmit and receive the converted digital communication signals between the controller (230, 330) and the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380);and a telephone circuit unit (240, 340) configured to restore analog communication signals from voice signals discriminated from the digital communication signals received from the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) through the interface unit (290, 390) and change physical characteristics of the restored analog communication signals according to physical characteristics demanded by the designated telecommunication network, and change physical characteristics of voice signals received from the handset (225, 325) according to physical characteristics demanded by the designated telecommunication network and convert the voice signals into digital communication signals, and transmit the converted digital communication signals to the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) through the interface unit (290, 390), wherein the physical characteristics demanded by the designated telecommunications network include the magnitude and frequency characteristics of the voice signals transmitted from the handset to the telecommunications network, and include the magnitude and frequency characteristics of voice signals and the magnitude of sidetone signals delivered from the telecommunications network to the handset;a facsimile unit (220, 320) configured to process facsimile signals from the digital communication signals received from the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) through the interface unit (290, 390);a memory unit (210, 310) storing information related to the physical characteristics specification of the one or more telecommunication networks;wherein the controller (230, 330) is configured to determine whether the handset (225, 325) is off-hooked or not, so the digital communication signals are delivered to the telephone circuit unit (240, 340) when the handset (225, 325) is determined to be off-hooked, and the digital communication signals are delivered to the facsimile unit (220, 320) when the handset (225, 325) is determined not to be off-hooked;wherein the controller (230, 330) is configured to read the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network and control the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) based on the read physical characteristics specification to change physical characteristics of the restored analog communication signals so as to be adapted to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network, and the controller (230, 330) is further configured to control the telephone circuit unit (240,340) according to the read physical characteristics specification to change physical characteristics of voice signals sent to and received from the handset so as to be adapted to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunications network.
  2. 8
A method for a communication terminal device including a handset (225,325) for inputting and outputting voice signals and processing signals according to a physical characteris tics specification of a designated telecommunications network corresponding to one or more countries, the method comprising the steps of:(a) converting, via a telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380), incoming analog communication signals into digital communication signals to be transmitted and received between a telecommunication network and the communication terminal device;(b) using an interface unit (290, 390) to isolate the telephone network adaptor unit (280, 380) from a telephone circuit unit;(c) transmitting, via the telephone circuit, to the handset (225, 325) analog communication signals restored from voice signals discriminated from the digital communication signals received from the interface unit (290, 390), and transmitting to the interface unit (290, 390) digital communication signals converted from voice signals received from the handset (225, 325);(d) changing, via the telephone network adapter unit (280, 380), physical characteristics of the incoming analog communication signals so as to be adapted to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network, wherein the physical characteristics of the incoming analog communication signals include amplitude and frequency characteristics;(e) changing, via the telephone circuit unit, physical characteristics of the restored analog communication signals and the voice signals so as to be adapted to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network, wherein the physical characteristics demanded by the designated telecommunications network include the_magnitude and frequency characteristics of the voice signals transmitted from the handset to the telecommunications network, and include the magnitude and frequency characteristics of voice signals and the magnitude of sidetone signals delivered from the telecommunications network to the handset;(f) determining whether the handset (225, 325) is off-hooked;(g) processing the digital communication signals as facsimile signals when determined that the handset (225, 325) is not off-hooked;and (h) storing information relating to the physical characteristics specification of two or more telecommunication networks in a memory (210, 310), wherein changing step (d) reads from the memory (210, 310) the information relating to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network and changes physical characteristics of the restored analog communication signals according to the read physical characteristics information, and wherein changing step (e) reads from the memory (210,310) the information relating to the physical characteristics specification of the designated telecommunication network and changes physical characteristics of the voice signals sent to and received from the handset according to the read physical characteristic information.
