10 claims: 4 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
An intraluminal medical device (2200; 2300; 2400) comprising multiple, independent, self-expanding stent segments (2202), each stent segment (2202) including:a plurality of longitudinal struts (2206;2406);and a plurality of loops (2208;2408) connecting adjacent struts (2206;2406);and wherein at least two of the loops (2208;2408) comprise a bridging element (2212;2412) constructed as an extension of the loops (2208;2408);wherein, when the stent segments (2202) are in an unexpanded state, at least two bridging elements (2212;2412) are spaced apart by a first distance to form a receptacle for interlocking with a bridging element (2212;2412) of an adjacent stent segment (2202) and;when the stent segments (2202) are in an expanded state, the at least two bridging elements (2212;2412) are spaced apart by a second distance, greater than the first distance, for releasing the bridging element (2212;2412) of an adjacent stent segment (2202).
  2. 2
The intraluminal medical device according to Claim 1, wherein the self-expanding stent segments (2202) comprise a superelastic alloy.
  3. 3
The intraluminal medical device according to Claim 2, wherein the superelastic alloy comprises from about fifty percent to about sixty percent Nickel and the remainder titanium.
  4. 4
The intraluminal medical device according to Claim 1, wherein the plurality of struts (2206;2406) and the plurality of loops (2208;2408) form a substantially S-shaped configuration.
  5. 5
The intraluminal medical device according to Claim 1, further comprising one or more radiopaque markers (2316).
  6. 6
The intraluminal medical device according to Claim 5, wherein the one or more markers (2316) are incorporated into the [mating protrusion] bridging element.
  7. 7
The intraluminal medical device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the bridging elements (2212;2412) comprise anvil type structures.
  8. 8
The intraluminal medical device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the alternate loops (2208) comprise a bridging element (2212).
  9. 10
The intraluminal medical device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each stent segment comprises at least two hoops, each hoop comprising a plurality of longitudinal struts (2406) and a plurality of loops (2408) connecting the longitudinal struts, wherein the stent segment further comprises standard bridging elements (2418) connecting a strut or a loop of one hoop to a strut or a loop of an adjacent hoop.
