10 claims: 4 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A tibial component (2) of a knee prosthesis comprising:a tray (10) having top (12) and bottom (14) surfaces;and a keel (40) having a top end (42) and a bottom end (44), the keel (40) being engageable with the bottom surface (14) of the tray (10), the keel (40) and tray (10) forming a male/female junction;characterised in that a rotational alignment pin (70) extends from one of the tray (10) and keel (40) and a pin receiving bore (58) located on the other of the tray (10) and keel (40) and in that the male/female junction has a non-circular cross-section to facilitate aligning the tray (10) and keel (40) in predetermined relationship for assembly.
  2. 6
The tibial component (2) of any of the preceding claims wherein the rotational alignment pin (73) has a first portion (74) extending away from one of the tray (10) and keel (40) and a second portion (75) extending from the first portion (74) further away from said one of the tray (10) and keel (40), the second portion (75) having a smaller cross sectional dimension than the first portion (74), such that the second portion (75) may be first received by the pin receiving bore (58) when the tray (10) and keel (40) are not rotationally aligned.
  3. 9
The tibial component (2) of any of the preceding claims wherein the male/female junction comprises a boss (18) extending from one of the tray (10) and keel (40) and a boss receiving bore (50) formed in the other of the tray (10) and keel (40), the boss (18) and the boss receiving bore (50) being coaxial about a junction axis, the boss (18) and the boss receiving bore (50) having complimentary non-circular cross-sectional shaped perpendicular to the junction axis such that the boss (18) and boss receiving bore (50) form a positive engagement that resists relative rotation about the junction axis once the junction is seated along the junction axis.
  4. 10
The tibial component (2) of any of the preceding claims wherein the male/female junction has an oval cross-section.
