  1. 1
An isolated, synthetic or recombinant nucleic acid comprising:(a) a nucleic acid encoding at least one polypeptide having a xylanase activity, wherein the nucleic acid comprises a sequence having at least 90%, 91 %, 92%, 93%, 94%, 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, 99%, or more, or has 100% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:159, or encoding an enzymatically active fragment of the polypeptide;(b) a nucleic acid encoding at least one polypeptide having a xylanase activity, wherein the nucleic acid comprises a sequence that hybridizes under stringent conditions to a nucleic acid comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 159;wherein the stringent conditions comprise a wash step comprising a wash in 0.2X SSC at a temperature of about 65°C for about 15 minutes;(c) a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide having xylanase activity, wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 160;or (d) a nucleic acid comprising a sequence completely complementary to any of (a) to (c);wherein the xylanase activity comprises an ability to reduce ClO 2 demand when used to pretreat Kraft pulp.
  2. 2
An isolated, synthetic or recombinant nucleic acid comprising a nucleic acid of SEQ ID NO 159, wherein the nucleic acid encodes a polypeptide having xylanase activity.
  3. 4
The nucleic acid of any of claims 1 to 3 encoding a xylanase and further comprising a a heterologous sequence not naturally associated with the nucleic acid of any of claims 1 to 3.
  4. 15
An isolated, synthetic or recombinant polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:160, wherein the polypeptide has xylanase activity.
  5. 17
The polypeptide of any of claims 14 to 16 further comprising a heterologous sequence not naturally associated with the polypeptide of any of claims 14 to 16.
  6. 19
The polypeptide of any of claims 14 to 18, further comprising at least one glycosylation site.
